i still don't buy marmol in the rotation. his effectiveness in the pen is his ability to just let it fly for an inning. if he has to pace himself, his stuff isn't nearly as electric, and two pitches won't get him through a batting order 3 times

Look at his minor league success. He was very, very, very good as a starter.

sure, so was Pie. just saying that he's probably the best reliever in the game right now. no reason to rock that boat

Exactly. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

move him to the rotation next year, marmol will want to close, eclusively, even though he's more valuable in his current role.

You've got it backwards. Keep Wood healthy in the pen, move Marmol to the rotation.

i think either way, it works. one of them will have to be in the rotation, because they both can't close. at least, so says conventional wisdom.

or one gets moved. It's the Wetteland/Rivera or Wagner/Dotel/Lidge situation

one could argue the rotation is going to need some fixing at some point in the near future.

One could also argue that Marmol is just as valuable coming out of the pen in a tight situation and slamming the door as he would be pitching every 5th day.

Usually middle relievers can be replaced and shuffled around, but Marmol is an exception. How many jams has he gotten us out of this year? Every team in baseball would kill for a guy like Marmol. Why would we want to kill the golden goose?

Oh crap, Kerry Wood allowed an earned run today. Reducing a lead of 4 to, gasp, 3.

Budhouse in 3...2...1...

Hey, if the lead were 3 runs less, that would have been a blown save.

My faith in wikipedia is forever shaken...

It took 4 pitches to strike him out. That's incredibly shammy if he can't do it in 3.

That's what I'm talkin' about... Imagine if it would've taken FIVE pitches instead? Oh, the horror!!

How much is gonna cost this off season if he keeps this type of performance up?

How much does a sham closer go for?

Budhouse?

Budhouse, alas for our entertainment, will not be re-visiting this thread.

Hellz no. A statement made this loudly and boldly only to have it completely explode...that is a thing of beauty that must be appreciated.
