He's dominated @ AAA many times though.

He was on the DL for two weeks, which makes it hard to work on mechanics. It also sounded like he should've gotten through the third inning without giving up a run. The walks came early and he settled down a bit before the questionable IF single in the third opened things up.

I'll be happy if he's ready to go by July 1st, although end of June certainly isn't out of the question. He's obviously not being rushed and still has some work to do, including building up some stamina. The same goes with Marshall.

I gotcha. I thought he was struggling a bit before he hit the DL too though, but I suppose that could also be attributed to the injury or just the shock of finding himself back in Iowa.

yeah, he should have gotten out of the third unscored upon. blanco muffed a grounder in the hole to his right. next guy singled, next guy homered the other way right inside the pole. he looked like he was throwing hard, but it looked like he was having trouble locating his fb. he had great control with his offspeed stuff.

he looked really flustered when he came out. he also put in a humorous ab during which he tried to drag bunt three times. at this point he was done pitching, but they didn't want to burn a ph, so they let him bat.

he was walking more than he should, but he wasn't giving up a bunch of runs or hits.

from the register (and posted in the minor league forum):

"We're an easy read - if you come down to Iowa and do well and get after it the right way, your turn's going to come," he said before Friday night's Iowa Cubs-Memphis game at Principal Park. It worked most recently with Micah Hoffpauir. It could work sometime for Rich Hill, Iowa's starting pitcher during Friday's 10-3 win against Memphis before an announced crowd of 10,377 at Principal Park.

"He's one of the reasons I'm here," Hendry said regarding the pitcher removed Friday from the disabled list. "I want to see where he's at, compared to where he was."

It could work for Felix Pie, who tripled and clobbered a three-run homer. "Felix is getting his feet back on the ground," Hendry said.

In three innings Friday, Hill allowed three hits, including a three-run homer, while striking out five and walking three after recovering from back spasms. "It's not a come in and throw good and you're going to Chicago type of deal," Hendry said. "You earn your way back."

Hill figured to be one of the Chicago Cubs' solid starters before running into control difficulty. "I feel like I'm throwing the ball as well as I have in a long time," Hill said. "It's been a couple weeks since I've been in a game, but I feel good after not being able to get into a rhythm since Day One of spring training."

Hendry watched from the seats behind home plate.

Well good. Sounds like he feels as if he's getting it together. Also good to hear that Pie is hitting. I want to see them both back up here, and soon. A rotation of Z, Lilly, Dempster, Gallagher, and Hill looks so much better than any rotation involving Marquis.
