SportsRise this morning on CSN mentioned that Lou said that Soriano would return to the lead off spot when he comes back from his injury. I haven't looked at any of the papers yet this morning to provide a link.

Len mentioned it during the telecast last night, though with the caveat of "Lou will lead him off if/when he feels Soriano can do what a lead off hitter should", which, to me, would mean never

"Yeah, we'll put him back in left field and lead him off," he said. "We want to make sure he can do all the things a leadoff hitter needs to do. We don't really want to take any chances here early in the year of bringing him back too soon, and all of a sudden we have another problem on our hands.

"He's going to go through a full agenda of outfield play and running the bases and hitting and those sort of things to ensure that we can keep him as healthy as possible."

Maybe its for the best. Limit the damage. If he hasnt been doing what the rest of them have while hes injured, the last thing we want is for Derrek, Aramis, and Fuku to spark a rally and then Sorinao ground into a 1 pitch double play.

he should bat 10th

the lineup should stay the way it is, with the exception of substitutions, until the team starts losing. i'm sick of our $18 million a year superstar having to be coddled and bat leadoff like the spoiled rich kid on a little league team. johnson does what a leadoff hitter is supposed to do. so does theriot. so does cedeno. so does fukudome. soriano is a slugger, not a hitter, and doesn't do any of the things you want out of a leadoff hitter.

your proposed lineup doesn't jive with your first sentence.

that's "jibe", "gybe" or "gibe".

I would hope Lou is seeing what happens when your leadoff hitters take walks and get on base and realize Soriano isn't a fit. In my opinon 3-6 should be Lee, Ramirez, Fuku, and Soriano. Depending on who's starting you can switch up the other positions. I could live with Fuku at #2, but I think his batting behind ARam is helping ARam.

Well, with Soriano hitting as he's been hitting, he should bat next to the pitcher. With him at the leadoff, the order is simply switched. Maybe we can all pretend he's the 9 hitter after the first inning.

Let's bat him 9th and hand him a lineup card before each game that's shifted one row so it looks like he's batting 1st.

If anything has been learned this past couple weeks - it has to be that when you get on base, your chances of scoring increase greatly. Rocket science.

I'd keep the guys getting on base at the top of the order. Johnson/Theriot is working....

Indeed. Something they've realized for 120 years. See my sig:

It's embarassing if you're being paid $18M and you're hitting 8th.

Works for me. He's obviously not going to keep hitting like he did before he went on the DL unless he's still not healthy. Offset it by doing something overdue and making Fuku #2 and Soto #5. That's a fantasmagorical 1-5.

Which is why I would not be surprised at all to see Soriano bat 3rd so he cane be protected by Lee

Soriano

Lee

Ramirez

Fukudome

That lineup would make sense to someone like Lou Piniella. It has some L-R balance, speed at the top and allows Soriano to use his power for good instead of the evil solo HR that is so terrible.

I'd rather see Soriano protecting Fukudome...

CF Johnson

SS Theriot/Cedeno

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

RF Fukudome

LF Soriano

2B DeRosa/Cedeno

CA Soto

or

SS Theriot

RF Fukudome

1B Lee

3B Ramirez

LF Soriano

2B DeRosa

CA Soto

CF Pie

Or trade him for Santana or something....

you do know that soto's OPS is pushing 1.100 right now, don't you?

soriano leading-off is far from ideal, but i can live with it. when all is said and done, he's still likely to be one of the team's more productive hitters so i don't have a problem with him getting the at-bats. it's better than having theriot lead-off, IMO.

more importantly, i'd like to see fukudome moved up to 2nd and soto 5th
