They should have the Challenge rule like the NFL...If its to close to call, leave it as it is, but plays like that are overturned easily.

That's absurd. I'm surprised no one lost their temper on that one, I'd have been livid.

Sometimes I think umpires think a certain play is going to end a certain way, like he thought it was going to be an out, and was thinking that from the get go, so he was intent on calling it out, and when it happened he was safe he got confused and accidentally called him out, and even though he knew he made a mistake he had to stick by it or else he would look bad, even though he probably looks worse now

I watched the play as it happen, and I was livid. If I was the Braves, I would have filed an immeidate protest against that ump. Don't wait till after the game, print off the best possible picture and sent it to Selig's office. I know the Braves won the game, but Selig needs to nip this in the bud, before a crucial game later in the season, is filled with contreversy. That ump needs to be punish for a blatant miss call. He can't say he was too far away from the bag, or the play was close. No-no. He saw Escobar pass first base before the ball got there.

Selig needs to be proactive (NHL style) and correct this before it costs a team a crucial game.

dan iassogna, i'm not surprised.

really though, they should fine him or something for a call like that.

I'm not one for routinely chucking things at umps, but I have to say that this season seems to have some of the worst officiating ever.

It will continue until MLB umpires are held accountable for their calls on the field.

Not the worst call ever, though. That would probably be the call at 1st base in the 1985 World Series with Dane Iorg.

I thought it was Jorge Orta.

You could be right. I'm not entirely sure.

I'm pretty sure that was Don Denkinger.

Or what about Kent Hrbek bodyslamming Ron Gant off of first base, and the ump at the time---Drew Coble---rules Gant out. That was as big of a blown call as the KC/Cards 1985 WS.

He's definitely the one. He still gets death threats from Cards fans.

As for the Braves one, the 1st baseman's body language is pretty hilarious. He masked it pretty well, but you can tell he's shocked, too.

ETA: I love the announcers reactions, too.

He and my late grandfather were friendly...not super tight, but they knew each other well. I've had the pleasure of speaking w/ Denk several times. I

always avoided asking him about the '85 Series....

I agree that the umping seems plain ludicrous this year... BTW, who are the competant umps anymore? It's gotta be a short list....either that or selective perception just makes it seem like all the umping is substandard.

the bruce froemming call in the brewers-pads game was pretty freakin bad last year. it's at 1:39 in the video that you can reach through this page. thank God that fat bastard retired.

Maddux's reaction was hilarious. He even pointed to Kouz and said nice play because he assumed he was out.
