I really only have two closers (Papelbon and Todd Jones) and am getting killed in saves right now. I also have a surplus of starters right now (Webb, Haren, Greinke, Parra, Wang, Hill, Smoltz, Volquez, McGowan, Gallardo, Kazmir) and am getting more than enough wins than I need right now. So I'm looking to trade for a closer and one guy who has an excess of closers has Hoffman, B.J. Ryan, Brian Wilson and George Sherrill available and he's interested in Gallardo, McGowan and Greinke.

Would trading any of my starters straight up for one of his closers be worth it? I'm iffy on Ryan's health and Hoffman's age and I'm not sure if Wilson and Sherrill will get enough chances considering the Giants and Orioles are horrible.

Good lord, is this like a 6 team league or something?

8 teams. I drafted Webb, Haren, Smoltz, Wang, Hill, Kazmir and added the others later.

32 major league teams, 8 fantasy teams = you need 4 closers

Crappy teams don't necessarily offer less save chances to their closers, thats a big myth.

Yes, absolutely, trading your starting pitching depth for closers is a necessity. Do you have IP limits, is this h2h, etc...

Keep Webb, Smoltz, and Gallardo for sure though.

It's head-to-head and I don't believe there's no IP max but there is a 23 IP/week minimum.

Out of his four that are available (Hoffman, Ryan, Sherrill, Wilson) are there any you would stay away from?

It's H2H? Screw closers. I certainly wouldn't trade solid SP for a mediocre closer in H2H. If you have 1/2 closers, you'll be fine. You'll get that 1 point for saves some weeks and you won't other weeks. Not worth losing sleep over.

I would not trade a good starter for a closer in a keeper league unless I got a decent position player along with the closer.

In the world of closers, someone new steps up to be a closer just about every week. Look at teams who have struggling closers. Those players could end up being dropped or replaced.

I'd comb the other teams and look for closers that are currently benched and offer up a reserve offensive player and keep your rotation intact.
