I know, weird poll.

My buddy and I were discussing this. Assuming that Spidey is the most popular Marvel character (not a big stretch), who do you think is next?

I'm not looking for your favorite, but who you think is most bankable or popular.

If I'm missing a choice, let me know and I'll add it.

based on knowing next to nothing about comic books, I picked Wolverine, if only because he seems to be all over everything at the toy store

gotta be the hulk

Hulk was my answer. Wolverine was my buddy's.

I don't know that most outside the comic book world really knew who Wolverine was until a few years ago. everyone's known who the hulk is for 30 years.

Without looking it up, I would bet that the X-Men movies did way better than the Hulk. As far as bankability of the characters go, I think it's Wolverine without much question.

Went with the Hulk, even though I leaned strongly toward Captain America for a while.

Both are extremely familiar characters even to non-comic readers, but the Hulk tends to get referenced more often.

Cap is dead. He's out of the running.

I heard rumors of the sort. I was hoping they were a terrible, terrible lie.

Yep. Marvel did this run called Civil War. The government passed a Superhero Registration Act, and it split the heroes into two factions. Iron Man led the pro-gov, pro reg faction. Captain America refused to help and ultimately became the leader of the opposition group. A lot of stuff went down, including the death of a marginal superhero at the hands of Iron Man's forces.

Anyway, blah blah blah, the two sides eventually meet in a titanic clash, and as Cap is about to ice Iron Man, he looks around and realizes this Super War is hurting the common man, so he stands down. He was then arrested (everyone else got amnesty), and after the court hearing, he was assassinated.

I think his sidekick might be posing as him now, but Steve Rogers, the real Cap, is gonzo. They'll probably drum up a way to bring him back in a few years.
