In Theriot's defense, he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would slam a former teammate. Not to mention it would be very stupid of him to criticize anyone seeing as the reason he has a job is that he "plays the game the right way" mouthing off about a former teammate and claiming you should be playing ahead of him is not "playing the game the right way"

I didn't expect him to say that Neifi sucked out loud. Couldn't he have told a much more defensible lie like "Neifi deserved to be there," or something?

He probably heard Baker say something similar to that so often that he just spat something like that out without even thinking twice about it.

With the Cubs out of the race in '06, Baker often played veteran Neifi Perez over rookie Ryan Theriot, leading to criticism he slowed Theriot's development.

"I don't think that's a fair criticism," Theriot said. "Neifi was a great player, and a proven veteran, a guy that did a lot of good things for a long time. There's a flip side you never hear about. He could've thrown me to the wolves and it could've turned out bad. I learned a lot just sitting back watching. There wasn't very much pressure, so just sit there and understand the big-league life. I learned from guys like Neifi and Todd [Walker]. They taught me a lot. One thing Dusty did do, when he started seeing some confidence, a couple good games in a row, he kept throwing you back out there."

 I seem to remember Patterson getting hot for a week, then finding himself on the bench for a game and OPSing like 600 for the rest of the month. I also remember Dusty being allergic to young players on hitting streaks. Heck, the only thing I could remember where Neifi could have helped is by teaching Theriot how to throw.

So when does Theriot follow Neifi's fine example and get suspended for illegal substances? Surely, he learned how do to those as well?!?!

Well, Theriot did hit a home run last night. :-k

Long time lurker, first time poster- a few thoughts-

Neifi just didn't have the commitment necessary to reach the top. He made a few futile efforts, but seriously, amphetamines? I eat that stuff for breakfast.

Theriot on the other hand, I loved seeing that homerun the other day. It showed his amazing potential, the fact that he can actually hit an entire homerun especially when backed by a massive wind. Soon, I hope he joins the party started by the great Jose Canseco and unleashes his potential on the top of the Cubs line-up. I think his GRIT factor is way too high to leave his power level at "pathetic" and OBP skills around the level of "career minor leaguer". Riot has the intangibles necessary to take the next step, and the next step is actually more of a next cycle made up of several different chemical compounds.

Do it Riot.

Worst case is you get caught, and as we all know, you can't post a ~.330 OBP from the leadoff position while serving a 25-game suspension. You also can't do it while you're on the DL.

Thank you sir, I felt I really needed to make my first post have something to do with the name which I look forward to attaching to many posts in the future. Also, it really looks amazing on the topic list as "most recent poster"
