I wouldn't have a problem calling him the best hitter on the team right now. He's got an excellent eye and looks to be absolutely locked in right now.

 

He's definitely hitting better than anyone else...but if you announced in the Cubs clubhouse that Fukudome was the best player on the team Z would definitely punch you in the face.
