Maybe we, and by we, I mean Hendry need to accept the fact that we just dont have a leadoff hitter. Brian Roberts and Coco Crisp are still out there, and can probably be obtained. Felix Pie is basically Corey Patterson II. He has all the tools to be the next Rickey Henderon, but he'd rather be the next Barry Bonds. I hope you like needles little guy.

The Cubs still wouldn't have a leadoff hitter.

what are you talking about he plays centerfield.

I think Pie is overrated. He should be further along by now. I will happily eat my words on this, but that's where I stand with it right now.

I'm kind of confused by complaints about the lineup and then suggestions that Pie should be #1 or #2. What exactly has he proven that suggests he should be in a premium spot in the lineup. Sure he has potential but let him show it lower in the order before pressing him into the top of it. His approach at the plate today was pretty ugly.

Fukudome should probably be in the top 3 somewhere, Soriano should probably be #5 as a low OBP high SLG guy.

Considering the org, I'm surprise Pie is this far along. I hate to break it to people, but for the most part Latin hitters (and I don't want to sound ignorant, or anything like that) take longer to developed, then most player.

Moises Alou was 27 when he began to hit his stride as a MLB player.

Sammy Sosa was 26 (he was mediocre at 25, excluding the HRs)

Roberto Clemente was 26 when he hit his stride.

Jose Guillen was 27 yrs old.

George Bell was 27 yrs old, before he found success.

Robinson Cano found success at 24 yrs old.

Carlos Delgado wa 25 when he found success.

Carlos Beltran was 24 when he found success.

Jose Reyes was 23 yrs old when he sniffed success.

Felix Pie is only 23 yrs old. So NO, I don't believe Pie is overrated, in fact....he's basically in line with fellow Latino players in terms of development. The best thing to do for a young player like Pie, is to let him play, to make him prove he can play in the majors, or not. And one game does not make a player overrated. Give the kid a chance, man. Give him a chance.

lol, i love the idea that if pie or patterson just actually tried, they could have the strike zone knowledge and pitch recognition of a guy who did those things better than 99.9 percent of the players who have ever played the game. those things are actual skills you know, not just things that every guy can pick up if he tries at it.

lol, Barry Bonds, pre or post steroids, would be one of the best "leadoff hitters" of all time.

i'm not even sure the "one of" is necessary.

But that's just the little bit of leftover conventional wisdom in me talking, I guess, because technically, it would be better to get Soriano more PAs than DeRosa.

Either way, lineup order isn't going to matter all that damn much as long as Theriot isn't at the top (or in it at all, preferably).

I can live with that. I can live with anything besides Theriot leading off.

I wouldn't mind that. Soriano has shown that he can't hit down in the order because he doesn't have any plate discipline. I am not sure if you want him running with Derek Lee batting anyway.

Mike Murphy on the Score is proposing that Fukudome hit #3 because Murphy thinks he has power. But I bet Fukudome hits 20 homers max this year. 20 homers has pretty much been what most experts predicted. Guess who his lead-off man is? Derek Lee. Why? Because he has a good OBP. What! Your best run producer can't hit lead-off. What a joke this guys is. And he thinks of himself as some know-it-all expert on baseball. How does he have a job?
