there's a video on youtube somewhere of him jumping over cars.

its a shame he can't hit at all

So, I've known about Gathright's "jumping ability" since his Montgomery Biscuits days. Cool guy, but can't hit consistantly to be anything more then a 4th OFer. But may be the fastest player in baseball.

someone who is this athletic should be able to make it in SOMETHING. if not baseball then track and field or football or whatever.

One would think that hurdles would be his thing. He's crazy fast and can jump like that. Maybe the high jump? I don't know - maybe baseball just isn't his thing.

Let's get a little perspective here. He has a Major League career, and he hasn't been the worst player either. He'll be arb eligible soon and will eventually make a couple of million dollars by the time he's in his early thirties. I think he "made it."

I can't wrap my mind around the idea that someone can jump over a car.

there are plenty of people out there that can do it, so it should be pretty easy to wrap your mind around it.

Hit the ball 30' down the first base line, outrun the throw to the bag or jump the guy trying to tag you. Can't fail.

I can come pretty close. I set up some boxes once at about that height (after i saw those videos), just knicked them with my shoe.

I can also touch an 8' ceiling with my elbow (I'm 5'7").

/bragging about my short-guy hops

I'm the complete opposite. I'm 6'4", and I can't jump worth [expletive].

Amazing. You'd think with his incredible speed and agility he could have some MLB success. I've never got to watch him much, but does he bunt often? Sheesh, you'd think with speed like that he could outrun the throw half the time. And doing so would draw the infield in constantly allowing him to slap balls over their head.

same here. i'm 6'4" and can barely dunk a nerf ball. man i wish i had hops, i would be such a beast on the volleyball court. i mean, i'm pretty good as it is, but i could hit the ball down like the top flight players do... that'd be fun.

I'll join this camp. I'm 6'4" and can barely touch rim on a regular hoop.

I'm 6'4" and.... just kidding.

Think we have enough 6'4" people here?

i'm 6'4 and i can do every dunk you can think of (not in the dwight howard category). You guys are an embarrassment to white people. Do some situps or something.

I can grab rim just well enough to tease me into hoping I can one day dunk, even though there's no chance of that ever happening.

I'm 5'9". As a teenager, I could come close to hitting my head on the bottom of a basketball rim. I'm not sure if I ever did better than a 48" vertical leap. My hands aren't big enough to palm a ball, so I had to dunk with two hands.

I had my first knee surgery at 20.

I like the fact that he's the fastest man in baseball but a crappy basestealer. He stole 9 bases and got caught 8 times in 2007, stole 10 bases and got caught 6 times in 2006. So in the past two years he's got 19 steals with 14 caught. Meanwhile, in the past two years Adam Dunn has 16 steals with 2 caught.

Well utilized speed, huh? Maybe one of these years they'll have him work with a basestealing coach?
