Well at least Lieber doesn't walk much?

Why would he sign here to be the long reliever? I'm sure they are going to trade Marquis, and having him "win" a rotation spot will only help his trade value.

Would anyone else be content with going with a six man rotation for the first 2 months of the season? Or atleast come up with a schedule that rotates all Lieber, Marquis, and Dempster equally? Seems like it would be a good way to keep all 3 of them fresh for the entire season.

Although I guess you could say that Lou's plan of using Lieber as a long reliever could do a very similar thing. However, wouldn't have made more sense to use Dempster in the long relief role?

NO. Why would you want Lieber/Demp/Marquis taking starts away from Zambrano or Lilly?

Let the odd man out throw simulated games every 5 days or something if you don't end up actually using them in the games.

Absolutely not. The fewer starts by those guys the better.

Obviously you chose not to read the entire post. I was throwing out 2 options to help keep those 3 fresh. So we can actually get the best out of them.

Wow, that could be the worst possible lineup that we could use unless we just picked out of a hat. Apparently OBP doesn't matter.

D-Lee better get used to batting with 2 out and nobody on.

At least Lou will not hesitate to tinker with this, but if we're 3 games back 3 games into the season, I'm not going to be a happy camper.

Lou also announced the opening-day lineup:

Thanks Bruce.

I still think it's strange that the focus all spring was on who would get the 3rd and 5th spots. It's just odd to think the 4 spot could be locked down with the 3rd spot up in the air.

Theriot did nothing to lose his starting job, or leadoff spot this spring. But I have to wonder who bad he will have to be, and for how long, in the regular season to lose the job.

I don't see the point of Soriano in the 2 spot. Is he really that less likely to run just by moving? Why not just tell him to run less in the first place? Fukudome's value is somewhat marginalized by being used primarily as protection for Ramirez. Aramis has never had much protection yet he's been fine without it. And Fukudome is the closest thing this team has to a top of the order hitter.

I know this has been discussed a lot, but seriously this is horrible to bat Fukudome 5th. I would think this is the spot you LEAST want to put your best OBP guy. You don't want him having to worry about being agressive where he can drive home the 1-4 hitters. UGH I am revising my projected Fukudome OBP to .345.

So Lou's great lineup has the worst hitter leading off, the worst possible #2 hitter hitting #2, and the best OBP guy hitting 5th.

How exactly would you choose to "keep all of them fresh" without taking starts from Z, Lilly, or Hill? You can't send them down to the minors and just bring them up whenever its time to make a start. 2 out of the 3 will get regular work and Lieber will have to get his work on the side to ensure that if he has to start, his arm will be able to go 5 or 6 innings.

My Prospoal works something like this. We keep 12 pitchers on the roster. You will have each one pitch 2 in a row then pull them for a week and do a 3 man rotation. The one out of the rotation at the time will be in the pen available certain days for some relief work.
