I'm in a 20 team keeper league and I'm trying to think of all the players who may not have been owned last year that can bring some solid value to such a deep league. So far the list I've got is: Michael Bourn, Billy Butler, Cameron Maybin, and Kosuke Fukudome.

I know I'm forgetting some imports or others. Ideas?

I'd definitely go Maybin or Fukudome, depending on whether you are going to be competing this year or in a couple years.

carlos gomez. off the charts bat speed and a faster runner than jose reyes. really raw at the plate, but could be fantasy gold- esp. in keeper leagues. give him 550 ABs and he'll easily steal 50 bases, and double digit HRs isn't out of the question. probably not a BA asset though. .265-.270 seems right. and with his speed- mauer, young, cuddyer and morneau should drive him in 95 times or so.

if i'm rostering a player in a keeper league it's going to be one that has top-35 draft pick upside for next year. i don't know of any regularly-available FA who has more upside. if upton, bruce, longoria or maybin are available then sure-pick one of them up. but since he's talking about keeper sleepers i assumed they weren't.

i don't see why gomez isn't capable of having a rookie year mirroring that of jose reyes or carl crawford.

Travis Buck is a thought. LF-RF eligibility, and while he is not likely to rake this year, he does have a future.

What do you see in Miller and Barton that I don't?

Miller won't soon have the wins, Ks (and probably WHIP) to make him fantasy relevant and Barton probably won't ever hit 20 HRs and he's in a nasty lineup that will inhibit runs created. From my perspective it seems youre confusing their fantasy value with real life value.

Keeper. Sleeper.

Keeper as in a player that may not be an awesome fantasy player this year but has a good shot of being one in the future.

Sleeper as in a player that not many people would expect to be good and thusly would be available via the waiver wire.

right, and that doesn't change what i said. i can't really imagine barton ever being fantasy relevant in a 5x5 and miller's a long ways away from even being startable.

Keeper = Jair Jurrjens, Atlanta SP

love him.

It's a 20 team keeper league. .340, 18, 75, 75, 0 is certainly relevant. Miller, well, IT'S A 20 TEAM LEAGUE.

I think he could very easily have John Olerud-like production. In his best years he'll hit around .340.

john olerud hit .363 once (.375 BABIP), .354 once (.373 BABIP), and then his next best year was .302. he just happened to have two amazingly fluky years. that being said, john olerud was a very good to great player over the course of his career, and if barton has a career that good, his teams will be very happy with him. olerud didn't get a lot of attention because he had more doubles power than homers, and wasn't especially prolific in the RBI department, but he was an on base machine and played outstanding defense at first base. he really should be remembered as a great player more than he is.

i doubt he'll be that good, but let's say he is. helton was a 10th round pick this year, would a player with similar performance warrant keeping? of course i'm assuming it's the usual 5-6 keepers allowed.
