Sign me up if it is average to get 8 years of job security at a just under 20 million a year. I would even take one year at that much and say I am good.

If Cabrera doens't eat himself out of the game, he'll be worth it.

Cabrera is gonna make Kirby Puckett look like Juan Pierre.

I don't think that will happen. Puckett was a big dude.

I thought I heard Cabrera went on a diet this offseason...he probably gave it up after a week, though.

We should have a "fat pool" with Fielder and Cabrera.

Wouldn't work, the minute they both got in the pool, it'd overflow!

Thank you, I'm here all week.

I really think a lot of Cabrera's weight gain had to do with his lack of motivation in Florida. Miggy going to Detroit is one case where the old cliche "change of scenery" might actually be true.

I could see it. I mean, some highschoolers play in front of more fans than he did down in florida. that's got to be the exact opposite of motivating.

It takes a lot of motivation to eat 7 square meals a day.

As long as you're not telling bad jokes the whole time we'll let you stay.

Cabrera lost a lot of weight and looked like he was in great shape when he got to camp, he was serious about the diet.

Hmm, well let's see.

He would have made 11.3 million this year without this deal.

Let's say 15 next year in arbitration.

So that essentially makes this a 6 year extension worth 21.26 million per year. That sounds pretty fair. He's definitely a guy with concerns going forward, but he has tremendous production right now and is still young.

Rotoworld hates the signing

A source told ESPN Deportes that the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera have agreed to an eight-year, $153.3 million contract extension through 2016.

It's possible, but it'd also hardly be the first time ESPN Deportes botched a reported contract. If this is true, Cabrera sold himself way too cheaply. To give up his last year of arbitration and seven years of free agency for just $19 million per year would be a terrible move on his part, or at least the MLBPA would have to feel that way.

This is a true statement.

They showed the Reds/ Tigers game Monday on FSN Ohio and I couldn't believe how much weight he lost.

He looks like a different person than last year:

I wasn't kidding, this is an outstanding signing for Detriot, especially if his new body is here to stay.

What a great job by Detroit. This also makes the fact that they gave up a ton for him all the more justified because they'll have him for a long time, not just two years.

At those yearly salaries, unless a ton is deferred, he wouldn't even be hard to trade in 4-5 years if he maintains his level of play.
