Small sample but Patterson and Fontenot looked passable at 2nd and SS.

I didn't hear the interview with Theript, did they ask him who he thought should replace him at SS?

I realize that its ST but Soriano has to pay more attention and not wander off the base.

Wood and Wuertz looked good.

Fontenot won't replaceTheriot, but he looked decent enough at SS that he could make the team as a back-up middle infielder.

Patterson was ok at second, but I think there's two many other players with a leg up on him for him to make the team out of spring training.

I agree but it's good to see him at 2nd. If he could handle it defensively he really provides the same thing that Roberts does without the price tag.

Zambrano was really good. If he can avoid getting off to his usual slow start, he could have a cy young type year. The only hit he allowed should have been caught by Pie.

Pie didn't look very good in the field or at the plate, but I'll give him a couple games to get it together since he just got his balls operated on.

Speaking of yesterday's game, which I believe was 3-16, I was flipping back from Lakers/Rockets and coming out of a commercial break WGN was showing a schedule of events that I believe was for March 31st (Opening Day) but I just barely got a glimpse of it before they took the graphic off the screen. Other than the Banks statue unveiling and the game itself, what else is going on that day?

The Roberts press conference. :pig:

I think they are going to show some sort of highlight thing called "This is the Year" or something like that.

Pie looked very Pierre esque on that play. It looked like he was afraid of running into the wall.

He just came back from an injury and I'm sure that limited him in going back along with his confidence to just go after the ball.

Less than a week ago he had doctors messing, cutting, and un-twisting one of his nuts.

I'd be scared of everything too. Give him a couple days to get back into life and forget about what had to be a mentally scarring experience before judging. At least I am.

Straddling a fence after what he went through would be the last thing I'd want to do.

I think Patterson and Fontenot may start the season on the Cubs bench. Fontenot has the ML experience, and he's hit better than Cedeno, so if he can play SS at all (which it looks like he can) then he'll get the edge over Ronny, who I can see being traded. Patterson has the versatility that Lou loves. If they go into the season with this current roster, the only backup CFs are Cedeno and Patterson. Cedeno might get the edge because he is RH, but his ability to play SS isn't as valuable because of Fontenot. EP can run and play a better OF than Cedeno at this point. I think both have an advantage over Cintron, because they are on the 40-man already.

Wuertz, Wood, and Zambrano were completely unhittable.

Four shame, Vance !

I wonder if the O's want Patterson and the Cubs have been showcasing him at 2nd.

I wouldn't mind seeing Patterson at AAA playing 2nd. He can learn to be an OF somewhere else.

I think Cintron has shown enough to convince Lou and Hendry to put him on the 25 man ahead of Cedeno. If they are trying Fukudome in CF as a backup then I see the bench being Blanco, Ward, Murton, Fontenot and Cintron. If Pie gets hurt then they call up Fuld as an emergency backup.

Cedeno is out of options, so if they keep Cintron, Cedeno has to stick too or be released

That's quite possible and I'd rather have Patterson than Cintron.

I hope he's their back-up plan for 2B. He may be better then his brother........... hitting wise.
