Hey !! Is this game thread broken ???

I'm here...but I'm also folding some laundry.

It would be nice if we could get Soriano, DLee and Aram all putting up MVP numbers this year

If that happens, I could see the Cubs winning upwards of 95 games this yr. But that is a big IF.

I kept Marmol in a keeper league last October because I thought he would be the closer this year. That said, I'd prefer Marmol in the 8th inning of a 3-2 game and Wood as the closer in a 5-2 9th than the opposite. Did that make sense outside of the horrific grammar?

Makes perfect sense. Why waste arguably your most talented, best reliever (Marmol) in a role that most teams could easily fill (closer)? I much rather Marmol be used between the innings 5-8, instead of the ninth, to be honest. Besides, if everything goes to plan a backend of Marmol/Wood will be one NASTY combo at the end of the game.

Throw in Howry and an improving Wuertz and this bullpen could be one of the best in the NL. The Cubs should worry about their October lineups if the 2008 Eyre can match his 2007 2nd half. My main worry is about the tail end of the rotation.

I'm going to make this statement on the quality of Zambrano's pitches and not his final line of a ST game against mostly Minor Leaguers, but that's as good as I've seen Zambrano pitch (well since Game 1 last year) in a long time.

Not only was he throwing strikes and his sinker and every pitch had great movement, but did you see Zambrano rocking the Change up!!!!!! He looked great out there and it wouldn't have mattered who he was facing today, they wouldn't have had much of a chance.

Very encouraging for the Big man. :good:

Zambrano was brilliant. He was a Felix Pie misplay away from throwing no-hit baseball thru 6. Everything was working. He did have some minor control problems, when it seemed like he was rushing.

Fontenot has to make the team. I'd say at this point that Fontenot and Patterson have to have the edge to backup the MIF. EPatt can play some OF. Fonty can play some SS. Cedeno has no options, but I'm convinced he'll be traded. Looking at a Fontenot, Patterson, Ward, Blanco, Murton bench right now.

I'll give Pie a break on that one due to his injury but yeah, the big guy looked good on the mound.

The only way Fontenot can make this team is if he plays another position. His arm looked a little less than average but if he can catch the ball and be on target with his throws, he'll be fine. Patterson had a funky throw that was up but Lee caught it with no problem. When he let it go I thought for sure it was over Lee's head but Lee just caught it around his head high. I can see Patterson letting some balls fly over 1st with those mechanics but overall I think he'll be fine and as you said, if he can play CF....even better.

No game today? (3-17?)

Nope. First off day of the spring.

Translation: Lou wanted to get smashed on St. Patties day.
