What's the difference between being "returned to Minor League camp" and "Optioned to Triple-A Iowa"??? I'm probably an idiot for not knowing . . .

 

Petrick is on the 40 man roster, so for him to be sent back to the minor leagues he has to use up one of his options.

 

The rest are non-roster invitees, so they can just get assigned back to the minor league camp.

OK, but why does he have to actually go to Iowa right now? Why can't he use an option and just go to minor league camp in sunny, warm AZ???

Bummer for Petrick. Maybe that means they like what they see out of Ascanio. Speaking of which, who knows where Ascanio stands with options?

 

Ascanio was added to the Braves 40-man last year and correct me if I am wrong still has all his options left.

 

Actually I believe Jose Ascanio has two option years remaining (as long as one is used before 2010).

we're in sunny AZ as of yesterday PM (woo hoo) and are getting ready to work our way over to Fitch later this morning. Glad to hear that Ceda and Colvin will be amongst those that we'll be able to see. Will be going with camera in hand and will post pics later this week. We'll also be at the Cub games Sun, Mon, and next Saturday and think we should get some good looks at things there too.
