nice stereotyping, theriot.

And if it means Theriot loses his No. 2 spot to Fukudome?

''I'm not karate-fighting him, that's for sure,'' he said. ''I could care less where I hit.''

wow.

Saying he wouldn't lynch Fukudome would have been more appropriate.......

i'm not saying he said it with any racist intent, it's just the kind of ignorant comment you might expect from someone who played their college ball in the south. he probably doesn't know any better.

I thought it was pretty funny. But before you think i'm racist, I want you to know that I own a Japanese TV. Or maybe it's a Chinese TV. Who knows, they all look alike to me. TV's that is.

Can we move this ridiculous karate chop discussion to rants or something and keep this thread on the subject of, I don't know, at least the lineup?

I bet if Fukudome told the reporter "Well, I'm not going to challenge him to a crawfish eating contest" people wouldn't overreact quite as much.

i find it equally as funny...

why must everyone and everything we say be neutral, watered-down, and leak-proof?

sensitivity has run amok

I love the notion that this is being overblown because it's being posted about on a message board.

That and derwood/zip city's failure at being sarcastic/witty. That one sank faster than the Lusitania. That's right, Lusitania.

I think you're missing the point. No one is saying that posting something on a message board is overblowing it. It's the fact that you're calling him a borderline racist. That's overreacting/overblowing.

I didn't say he, the one and only Ryan Theriot, is a borderline racist. I said that the words that came out of his mouth were borderline racist.

So who's missing the point/overreacting/overblowing? You people are pretty much falling all over yourselves to defend Ryan Theriot like he's some sort of infallible baseball jesus. Pointing out that what he said was offensive to at least some of those among us is not overblowing anything. Attempting to explain it away says a lot, though.

If you don't think that's problematic or at least slightly stereotypical/racist, then you're probably the type of prick who would say that sort of thing and think its OK. But don't worry, it's not like white people in America have a history of projecting vitriolic garbage at Japanese people or locking them in cages or anything.

That's a tad over-board.

The truth is never over-board. Why would you defend such a comment unless deep down, you know you say the same dumb things yourself? There would be no reason, because what he said is obviously ridiculous.

Yes, there's NO chance that this was an inside joke or anything. Good thing we have you around to decipher these things for us.

But you don't know the Truth. You have no idea if this is a inside joke or that Fuk is a Ninja, like Dempster.

Pff. Don't you have some NSBB thread to summarize and pawn off as and original thought of yours on your web journal?

Anyway, it doesn't matter if it's an inside joke or not. My friends and I have tons of inside jokes that would probably be pretty offensive if I said them to anyone else. But I don't. That's why it's an inside joke. However, it stops being an inside joke when you say it to the media. And when your inside joke smacks of racism, well, there you go.
