I understand he intends to pitch normally in his usual rotation turn, and then the next day start as a knuckleballer. The Astros have asked him to do this so that they may list their rotation as "Oswalt, Oswalt and pray for three days of rain" instead of four days.

I love the knuckleball. My friends and I used to throw it to each other when we were just hitting balls around.

Mine would never flutter for whatever reason. They would barely spin, but they'd be straight as a damn string and get hit into the next county.

Appreciate the news, but you have like 6 topics out there with things you've seen and heard yet you make no mention of where you heard the info. Can you provide a link or source? Thanks

No, I would just like to read more about Oswalt throwing a knuckle than "well supposedly"

GDit How am I supposed to find out things if someone doesn't spoon-feed it to me?

I can't really answer that without spoon-feeding it to you, now can I? I'd suggest googling your inquiry.

Knuckler? While throwing to Astros hitters on Saturday, Oswalt mixed in a surprise pitch -- a knuckleball, which was "nasty" enough to make those watching this session chuckle.

Oswalt said he may use the pitch this season. Why? "Age," he responded.

"I threw it in college," the 30-year-old righty said. "Then I quit when I was drafted. I just picked it up when I was in college."

The ever increasing douchebaggery of earth2sean and Meph is really getting old. Seriously, have a little consideration for other human beings. Is it really that much of an inconvenience to click your mouse and drag it a little when you went to the trouble of starting a thread about something?

i wouldn't say meph's is increasing... joe morgan would say, he's been very consistent in that department.

There used to be a lot more pitchers that threw knucklers as a regular pitch in their arsenal. By the time the 80's came along, there was a dogma floating around that said throwing a knuckler in compliment to your regular pitches would screw you up. I'm not sure why or how that got started though, considering the number of pitchers that successfully threw knuckleballs with other pitches in the past.

I think its more a matter of there were fewer power pitchers during the 80s than there are now. I can remember a time when 92 was really bringing it and most pitchers worked in the mid 80s. There were more people throwing a screw ball back then too. I think they had to rely more on deception than power. If they could have thrown a 95 mph fastball why would they mess around with gimmicky pitches like the knuck?
