While I'm giving unasked for opinions, how about 4 or 5 "Throw Back the Clock" nights with old, classic looks? That'll sell some merchandise, and I'll be first in line.

Word on the street is that they'll wear throwback unis at least once in 2008.

That red thing is disturbing...

As "A New ERA" said:

It's not a BAD uniform, it's just your opinion.

The Cubs CAN pull off red, if they do it with taste. I kinda like the red uniform.

I'm all for classic if "classic" actually means more than 20-25 years old.

The Cubs should never, ever wear red.

I disagree. I think they should have one day a season where they wear red and donate the proceeds to a charity that is associated with red like the Red Cross, or China or something. I don't mind red tops myself. Personally I want some more blue tops (mainly for the roadies). The Cubs current road uniforms suck hardcore. I want the powdered blues back.

And LSU should NEVER, EVER win a National Title with 2 LOSSES....it happens....

That point is not well taken in the land of the Kingfish, eh?

No sirs, those jerseys were glorious.

84 and 89 weren't bad years.

=D>

Let's teach these youngins' a thing or two!!!

I love the 84' jerseys, and have been begging my wife to get me the exact one you posted.

Those '84 jerseys are good only if worn with a Jose Cardenal-type 'fro or with a Carmen Fanzone-type 'stache.

Neither Cardenal (1972-77) nor Fanzone (1971-74) ever got the chance to wear the '84 style jersey.

As far as throwback or alternate jerseys/uniforms..

here's a few I like.

The one on the far left would be nice for a turn back the clock day.

I like both of these.

The one on the left is good, minus the collar of course.

And nothing beats the Cuba-script grays and blues.

Those would all be great throwback uniforms to dust off from time to time.

Count me in with the people that don't like the Cuba script. It looks like a high school girls softball team logo. I actually really like the grays, especially with blue sleeves and blue socks pulled up, but I prefer the "formal" script they use now.

Modernizing one of the old uniforms for a game might be a good idea, too.

no no no. if they are going to wear throwbacks, they MUST be 100% wool

The Cuba script is cool, but they've got to lose the walking cub. Instead they ought to use the cub holding a bat, that made its debut in the Chance era and was revived in the 20s.

As for retro unis, the suits of the 1937-39 era are the best Cubs of all time.

I don't think Neifi would ever stop scratching himself if he had to wear wool.

I like the idea of having the script with the underline, but it just doesn't execute well on account of "Cubs" being so short.

Am I the only one who liked the nameless home jerseys better, BTW?

I didn't mind them, but the Cubs neglected to do something for their nameless uniforms that the Giants, Yankees and Red Sox - the three teams that currently have nameless home uniforms - do for theirs, and that's use larger numerals.

If you look at the jerseys of any of the three aforementioned teams, you'll notice their home uniforms use enlarged numerals on the back, in order to fill up the expanse of blank space. The Cubs didn't/neglected/failed to do this, and as such, the nameless unis just looked like named uniforms that someone had stripped the lettering from and it just didn't look right. The numbers looked too small relative to the expanse of space on the back of the jersey and often they were placed too low.

This could just be me, but it bugged me for most of '05 and '06.

I agree with BCVM about the size/proportion thing. Something was just off. IIRC, I also felt the numbers on those unis rode too low on the players back. They should have been set higher on the jersey.

I like the road greys the team wears now. Road greys are baseball. That's the way it is, the way it always has been, and the way it should always be -- especially for a venerable franchise like the Cubs. I don't think the current Cubs road design is untouchable by any means, but to assault its grey-ness is downright communist.

The clamor for uniforms that weren't "so bland" led to such utter tragedies as this:
