Don't have a link. Lou just said it on Instant Replay w/Dan Roan.

He's concerned about Wood's ability to handle the work load. As we know, though, Lou isn't afraid to change things up, so we'll see.

He also said, as we've already heard, that he's looking for a 3rd and 5th starter (to break up Lilly and Hill).

Said he likes Fukudome's "actions" in the field and at the plate. Has a more traditional "American" swing than other Japanese players. They hit some fly balls to him today, and he looked good. Supposedly showcased his arm a little, too.

I can live with Bob Howry as closer. I cannot live with Ryan Dempster as starter.

Yea. I can live with Dempster as closer. I can live with him as a mop-up guy, too. I can live with him off this team. Him being in the rotation would really suck and I'm still expecting that not to happen (or in denial, either way). Hopefully, if it happens, it'll be abandoned just as quickly as it was in 05.

He did say that Howry would be his closer if Dempster isn't.

He also, though, later on, listed the candidates for the last two rotation spots and mentioned Marquis, Lieber, and Marshall. Freudian slip? Maybe. But he doesn't seem nearly as enthused about Dempster possibly starting as Dempster, himself, does.

I'm hoping that Wood can handle the load. I really think he can be a dominant closer if he can stay healthy. And as an aside, how incredible would it be (and I know I'm dreaming here) if he recorded the final out of the clinching World Series win?

i have a feeling woody will be the closer at some point in the season...he may not start there but he will most likely end up there...

just a gut feeling

maybe he could hit a home run in game 7 to get us back in the ball game?

i want marmol nowhere near the closer's role, unless game 7 of the series, we're winning and he hasn't been used yet.

seriously though, he should be the number 1 reliever and should picth wherever he's most valuable. imo, he's most valuable in tight situations.

I like Bob in the 8th inning, helping to get the ball to the closer. I don't mind Howry getting certain opportunities to close, when the team is given the reg closer a day off, but I see Howry's value to the Cubs as the 8th inning guy.

It'd be awesome if we just used Dempster as the 4th RH reliever behind Marmol, Wood, and Howry. If we use them all before the 9th inning, then use Dempster then. Otherwise, those 3 finish the game with Dempster doing impersonations in the pen.

I'd rather Wuertz be the 4th RH reliever than Dempster. If we can't unload Dempster before the season starts, let him be the long man or pitch in mopup time.
