I remembered the Tribune had an article about GlenAllen's workout and supplement regimen. Looking back on it now it's pretty funny.

Some quotes:

Before each game Hill ingests 16 vitamins and supplements. The names on the bottles sound like nothing you would want to put in your system, but Hill's diet was designed by a professional named Dave Lopez, who works at Supplements Direct.

It's hard to believe the names of the supplements are even in English. There's one called L-Glutamine and another named Ginkgo Biloba. Hill takes Huperzine-A, which aids "memory and concentration," according to the label, and Vinpocetine, a "cerebral oxygenator for memory support."

"They increase the time that your brain processes information," Hill said. "You can remember faster and think clearer."

Hill also takes supplements called Phosphatidyl Serine and L- Tyrosine.

"I don't know what they do," Hill said. "They just work."

That's hard to dispute. Not only is the 35-year-old Hill "built like a rock," according to teammate and friend Sammy Sosa, he became a specimen without lifting weights or, he says, experimenting with steroids.

I pulled this from Factiva so I don't have a link. It's the May 25th 2000 article written for the Tribune, written by Teddy Greenstein.

I love Glen too, but he doesn't have much to lose by fessing up. His career is over and - in spite of his titanic HR's - he isn't going to the HOF.

And why is he such a stand-up guy for fessing up after he gets outed in the Mitchell report? Why didn't he say what he was doing before then? These guys are taking the easy way out, fess up and nobody says anything. Fight it like Roger the dodger (not that I support him-no way) and wveryone rips you a new one.

They cheated! They tried to get an unnatural advantage over other MLB players in their career. Andy Petitte cheated, he used hgh to recover faster than he naturally could without "help".

And everyone will let them off because they "fess up".

I respect the road Andy Pettite, Giambi, and the guys who "came clean" take as compared to the road that McGwire, Palmiero, Bonds, and Clemens are taking.

I blame the players....partially. The owners and "commissioner" also get half the blame. They are playing stupid too.

After the mistake has been made, the best thing anyone can do about it is to be honest about it, admit what was done, and say it was wrong. That's the kind of thing that can discourage future use, as opposed to falsely denying everything to the bitter end until someone else proves you wrong.

It must be nice to have never made a mistake! :hello:

What rule did Glenallen Hill break to be labeled a 'cheater'. Maybe what he did was illegal but he didnt break any baseball rules.

well federal law should trump baseball rules 100 times out of 100. i'm pretty sure that rape and murder aren't officially against the rules of baseball either, but that wouldn't excuse a ball player from committing them

Technically, though, that wouldn't make rape or murder "cheating."

And what if said player managed to use steroids without breaking any laws?

curious as to how that would work.

It's a hypothetical to separate the law from the baseball rulebook. Aren't they legal over the counter in Mexico? Get them there, inject them there, and come back. Are you breaking any laws? I don't know. As I said, anyway, it's a hypothetical.

I recall in the Real Sports episode on steroids (which actually showed that they aren't nearly as dangerous as all the hype would have you believe) that there's a few bodybuilders in southern California who cross into Tijuana when it's time to shoot up to do it legally. I don't recall all the details as it's been a while since I saw the show.

I'm almost positive steroids at what not were illegal, baseball just didn't test for it. I believe according to the CBA that if it was illegal to us a drug in the US it was illegal to use if you were a baseball player.
