They are tanking 2008, and looking at back to back top 12 draft picks as they head to their new stadium. I wonder if the owners will have any interest in paying for that top talent, or if they are going to have to only go after signable guys.

Imagine the haul they could get for Chavez from the Dodgers if they went that route.

I have to imagine the conversation would start with Billingsley/LaRoche/Kemp + some guys from the lower levels of the Dodger system and go from there.

It could be the motherload. I doubt they'd trade the face of the team but wow, he could bring in a lot of talent.

I think it's obvious that the A's will trade anything for the right price. I don't think Beane cares about the face of a 70 win team.

Chavez is a good defender and at his 2005-2006 level of performance (.280 EqA) is a valuable player, but he hasn't been elite since 2004 and is coming off a .306 OBP in a year where he had both labrum and back surgery. And he's owed $34 million over the next three years. Beane would pull the trigger on that trade before Colletti finished his first sentence.

Beane would brake his arm from trying to pat himself on the back.
