Just thought I would throw this out there. Looking at the orioles board there are some posters on there who believe Bedard has better "stuff" then Z and therefore would be our number 1 if he were to come here. I dont get into all the stats, so I figured I would post this question to see what you those who are a bit more informed might say. I like Zambrano and his "stuff" better. Just my opinion though.

Well Z hasn't been putting up #'s like a #1 pitcher for a couple of years.

I would love to see Lilly as #1 he was a lot more dependable, not saying he was better.

then "Z" and Bedard. Lou can make switches at All-star break

I want to give Z 2008 to prove he can come out and pitch well before mid-May before conceeding he's dropping off. I think he knows now, after last year, that he can no longer use April as part of his Spring Training activities. It got ugly for him last year -- let's see how he responds.

I am in the wait and see mode as well, besides we haven't picked up another starter ...yet

While I am not a good judge of "stuff" for a pitcher here are my thoughts:

200+ IP seasons: Z-5 Bedard-0 (however he has 2 over 185)

200+ K seasons: Z-2 Bedard-1

75+ BB seasons: Z-5 Bedard-0

While Z is more volatile as a pitcher, he can be dominant in a way that Bedard cannot. Z is the better pitcher in my opinion.

Z's peripherals are heading in the wrong direction, and while Bedard is due for some regression, he's still likely to be better than Z next year.

That being said, Z doesn't have the same injury issues that Bedard has, so I'd still take Z.
