I wonder if Dusty learned that he actually has to work a little with the players instead of sitting around with a toothpick in his mouth. Maybe Walsh helped him see that. Hahahaha...I was just kidding.

Thanks for the article Bruce.

If you let the champ get up from the mat, the champ's usually stronger than when he went down.

Why do I get the impression that Baker still thinks he won the World Series and never missed an October?

The key is, you can get down, but just don't stay down. If you let the champ get up from the mat, the champ's usually stronger than when he went down.

Go get em Champ!

"I'm very motivated," Baker said. "That was a wonderful '07. I did a lot of healing, emotional healing. Whenever you have scars, scars heal back stronger than the skin that was there the first time. So I'm stronger now than ever."

Yes Dusty, but even as time passes, those scars leave a memory of a painful past, just like your tenure here.

I think everybody knows how sensitive a person Dusty is, certainly the Chicago media did their share of beating him up. Chicago is a far cry from San Francisco. I remember him saying how much time he had to take off to "heal" after the Giants lost to the Angels the W.S. He also made similar comments after the Cubs lost to the Marlins in 2003. Away from the Diamond, Baker is a wonderful person. I'll never forget him signing two baseballs for me, and how he called me twice when I was struggling with colon cancer. It was great how he inspired the 2003 team to the N.L. Central Crown...it's just too bad "we" couldn't have finished the job. The other years he was here were equally disappointing. I'm glad we have Sweet Lou but I do wish Dusty well.

I like how he says his reputation took an "unnecessary hit." It was hardly unnecessary. In stock market terminology it's what's known as a "correction."

Did he really get fired or was his contract just not re-newed? I thought it was the latter.
Officially his contract wasn't renewed, but it's really just semantics.

"That losing was miserable. I don't want to go through that ever again.

Then if that is the case, why would you go to the Reds, Dusty?

Thanks! Longtime Cubs fan of 36 years here. Grew up a mile from Wrigley, spent summers at the ballpark and watched in horror as the neighborhood changed over the years. Now I live in the NW suburbs.

For the record. 2003 was THE year, man. As much so as 1984.

It shoulda happened.......

We'll have more chances, don't worry. The NL stinks so that really helps.
