    • I agree with Jay-z, I back what he is doing, but it's misguided

What is the difference between naming an album "[expletive]" and naming it "[expletive]?" Or "[expletive]", or "Yard Ape?" I can't imagine too many people would consider these acceptable names.

Didn't NWA take care of this topic in the late 80's with the release of -- efil4zaggin ? Nas has never really been one to try shock value to get pub. before, so I don't see that. Misguided, maybe. But as Carlin says, it is just a word. I wish I was someone would name their album Sea unt, that would be great shock value.

Yeah, I think his idea is taking what NWA did one step further using the "gger" ending.

I'm fairly positive I don't know what the hell a "Nas" is.

His name is Nasir Jones, therefore, it's just a short version of his first name.

now I'm pretty sure I don't know who the hell "Nas" is

One of the most respected and lyrically talented rap artists ever.

These guys are way ahead of you (NSFW band name)

 Their band logo is disturbing.

His music sucks. The album title isn't gonna be enough to get me interested.

While his albums do not do well commercially, he does not suck. He is very well respected. Be careful or there will be a Nas s. Jay Z thread.

I'm not really sure I understand Nas' explanation.

I believe what he's trying to say is that if he takes that word, and not only acknowledges it, but promotes it as his album cover, he is accepting it. And thus, that word no longer has any power because it no longer hurts him. At least, that's what I got from it

That reminds me of Clerks 2 when Randal wanted to take back "[expletive]" and wrote it on the back of his shirt.

Jay-Z is right. Words are completely arbitrary, their meaning is found in how people respond to the word. Nas cannot take back a word anymore than he can take back hate some people have of him. All he is doing is further dividing American culture that is already fractured too much.

A dying art form rap is and this is just the last gasp of a pathetic non-entity in our society. It is punctuatedby another non-entity Jesse Jackson

Rap and the hip-hop culture is everywhere. Movies, TV, Radio, Fashion; everywhere. Hip hop has grown immensely from it's humble beginnings and it seems to be continuing to grow; that's what I meant by stronger. Probably not the best choice of words.

His music sucks.

You may be the only person I've ever heard say that.

My main problem with rap is that it ran out of new ideas a long time ago. I knew when guest rapping got out of control that hip hop had a problem. If music is vital and fresh then it shouldn't need a big list of superstar guest appearances to get people interested. All the guesting strikes me as a desperate attempt to cover up the artistic bankruptcy of this musical form.
