Well, I think Louisville ends up with a 2 seed.

They might have to win out to get that.

Memphis

UCLA

Tenn

UNC

Duke

Kansas

Texas

I think the last one comes down to them or Georgetown. Even then that is assuming Wisky or IU doesn't win out.

Yeah, I think it's them or Georgetown and I'll give the nod to Louisville.

UCLA probably has to win out or come close to winning out to get a 1 seed. UCLA still has @ Arizona and vs #8 Stanford plus the Pac 10 tourney. I don't think they'll win out.

I will follow the company line that I'd prefer being a 2 in the West (Anaheim -> Phoenix) than a 1 elsewhere (Anaheim -> somewhere not as close as Phoenix). Of course a 1 in the West would be ideal.

who is the most consistently bad team in the pac 10 in basketball? it can't be either of the washingtons, i don't think. not oregon. not ucla, usc, cal, stanford or arizona. i seem to recall arizona st occasionally not being terrible. so is it oregon st?

Thats pretty much the way I am feeling. I don't want to go out West as a #1 with UCLA. Though I am not sure where it would be better as a #2. Just make it to the final four in San Antonio and let the crowd hopefully help pull some magic.

Before the Bennets I would have said Washington St. But now I would say Oregon St. Even though Bones went there.

Where's Xavier?

I like them, but cannot see the committee giving a mid major higher than a 3 seed. Think back to the year that Gonzaga was ranked in the top ten, yet got a 4 seed.

I think Xavier gets a 3 seed, and no Big Ten team ends up higher than a 4. Still plenty of games to play, though.

I'll start an NCAA tournament mock selection/discussion thread soon. Probably Monday.

Seeing how they beat Indiana pretty easily at a neutral court, I really can't see Indiana getting a seed over them. Wisconsin did have that big OOC win against Texas, but they have a lower RPI and SOS than Xavier does.

I like what Louisville has done recently, especially now that they're healthy. They are an extremely dangerous team. 8-4 against the top 50 is also very good. But Xavier is 6-1 against the top 50 and they really don't have any bad losses (0 losses outside of the top 80).

As long as they don't falter down the stretch, they deserve a 2 seed.

I hope you are wrong on the second part. Wisky went in and won at Texas, who might end up with a 1. They also swept IU. Just because they don't have any names, doesn't mean they aren't very good. If they win out they should be a 2.

Again I am not arguing that they don't deserve a 2 seed, I am arguing they won't get one.

It's going to be a crying shame if they don't get a 2 seed.

Eh, either way they will still be someone that no one wants in their region. Drew Lavender alone makes them a nightmare.

Wisconsin is the best of the lot, but the Big Ten is way down this year, non-conference RPI worse than the MVC, and there's been no "clear" best team. If Wisconsin had gone, say, 17-1 or 18-0 in the Big Ten, a 2 would have been a possibility, but the flaws in the other BT tourney teams (Indiana beat down by UConn, Purdue's bad early losses, Michigan State looking awful in conference) are going to end up reflecting on the quality of Wisconsin's team, IMO.

If I had to seed 1-4 today, I'd probably go

1. Memphis, North Carolina, UCLA, Tennessee

2. Texas, Kansas, Louisville, Duke

3. Georgetown, Vandy, Xavier, Stanford

4. Connecticut, Wisconsin, Drake, Pick an Indiana Team/Marquette

I personally am suprised that Butler isn't getting more love than they are. You are probably right about the Big Ten being down hurting Wisky, but I still think they will be a very tough out.

I just read Patrick Patterson is out for the year, stress fracture in ankle. That cannot help Kentucky's chances.

uh, that basically dooms any chance kentucky had. really sucks. i don't remember a year in which so many crippling injuries occurred. on past teams, there were bench players who could step in and bear the load somewhat if a core player got hurt. this year, that's not the case.

It could force him back for next year though. Might be good for the program in the long run.

I'd be interested in participating, by the way.

As for the B10, I think you'll see at least one three seed, possibly two. I believe Wisconsin has the best shot since they will almost certainly win out and win at least one in the B10 tournament, leaving them no worse than 27-5. Purdue could very well lose at OSU, but other than that, they won't lose until B10 tournament -- leaving them at around 25/26 wins. I'd say the odds are against IU beating MSU on Sunday, but they'll win against Minnesota and Penn St, plus at least a win in the tournament, leaving them with around 27 wins. And if IU can pull off a huge upset at MSU, well, they'll be rewarded.

The championship on Sunday doesn't matter in terms of NCAA seeding, so the Friday and Saturday games take on a larger importance... but the low-mid rank of teams playing the top three on Friday would be hard pressed to get an upset. You're looking at (should the seeds hold as they are today) UW vs. Iowa/Michigan, Purdue vs. Penn St./Illinois, IU vs. Minnesota/Northwestern. None of the top three have lost to ANY of those teams all season, and it's unlikely to happen in the BTT.

And, don't forget, IU and Purdue get a nice crowd bonus since the games are at Conseco in Indy.

honestly, i don't think there is any question as to whether he'll be back next year, injury or not. he's said multiple times that he wants to stay. i could be wrong, but i really think he's going to be at UK for three years (word is that he's on track to graduate in 3).

Illinois could beat IU if they match up with them. We could have twice this year. We get up for them. The other teams we can't even hang with.

I think an interesting discussion would be: who is the best Indiana tournament team? IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, Butler? They're practically interchangeable.
