I think the absence of Afflalo puts UCLA a step below KU and Memphis. So far, I haven't seen anyone on that team fill his shoes adequately. Definitely a FF team, but they don't scare me this year like they did last year. That may change as Love continues to improve, though. I still think they're better than UNC, though.

Russell Westbrook. More dynamic as a scorer while not as good a shooter, nearly as good defensively and has taken Afflalo's role as the perimeter defensive stopper. Getting the ball inside and having a good post-up scorer like Love is the most important thing, it's been lacking even with Afflalo and Farmar's offensive contributions the last few seasons. I'm more concerned about Collison's health than anything else.

Weber is now going to start McCamey. But not for Frazier. Unreal. Bruce can't sit his Neifi.

I'm taking your word on this since I haven't had a chance to read anything about this yet. I don't know why McCamey and Brock can't be our backcourt, with Alexander, Randle and Pruitt up front. Frazier as a shooting guard is even worse than Frazier running point.

He's already averaging 16.5/10.2 which are team highs and is shooting almost 60% from the floor. How much do you expect him to improve?

Also, doesn't Kansas play up-tempo basketball (maybe not as much) just like North Carolina? So if UNC is susceptible to a team that can control the tempo, which I think they are, isn't Kansas just as susceptible? I mean, this is the same Kansas team that got taken out by UCLA - a team that likes to control the tempo - a year ago and they lost Julian Wright from that team. I'm not sold on Kansas. Sure, they'll probably roll through the Big 12 again but I don't think they're as good as Memphis, UNC (who is better at playing the same style of game), UCLA and maybe Georgetown.

EDIT: I'd probably have Memphis and UNC 1-2 in some combination with Kansas behind them.

I got it from Weber's postgame comments. He said that his coaches threatened to not sho wup if DMac wasn't starting.

DMac

Meachem

Alexander

Davis

Lets see what Davis has in an extended role.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're saying but you think Penn St. has passed Illinois as a basketball program? Yow.

I said before the season started Penn St. had an outside chance at being a tourney team. This is still a terrible loss, but this isn't some great revelation that Penn St. is having it's annual 1 year a decade where they don't suck at basketball.

i don't mean to overstate things, just saying that Penn State is pretty decent this year and losing to them isn't as bad as losing to Michigan or Northwestern might be. have they passed Illinois as a program? no way. but i love how all you illini guys do is bitch and moan about your own program, but god forbid someone says something about it.

Ok so which is it, has Penn State passed the Illini's program or not? I have no problem with somebody saying something about the Illini's program, when what is being said is true. But in this case your original comment was ridiculous. Penn State isnt a good team, and either are the Illini. Is this the worse loss the Illini have had? No way we just lost last week to Tenn St., but its definatley not a loss to be proud of right now, and it wont be a loss to be proud of at the end of the year. Penn State will be in the bottom 5 with Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan, and Iowa when the season is done.

which is it? I think i clearly retracted my first statement. i'm not going to predict where Penn State will finish in the conference, but even if they finish "bottom five", that could mean seventh, which is higher than most predicted going in. Yes, their SOS is bad, but as they saying goes, you play the teams on your schedule. They won their ACC/Big 10 Shootout game, are undefeated at home, and 2-0 (both on the road) in conference so far.

Penn State has a long way to go, but don't hold such a high and mighty attitude about your precious Illini. Yes, your program is better, but it's certainly trending downwards right now. your recruiting power should allow you to rebound quickly, while Penn State has to prove it can be at all consistent (which it has failed to do year to year). Should be interesting

ETA: Nice of you to mention PSU's 119 RPI while leaving out the fact that Illinois is 128 (with a SOS of 54)

What would be the point of me mentioning Illinois RPI? Ive clearly stated many times throughout this thread that Illinois sucks. My whole point was about you saying losing to Penn State isnt such a bad loss, and may look good at the end of the year, which is false. Losing to a team with an RPI of 119 and a terrible SOS will never be considered a good loss. Not to mention your comment about Penn States program surpassing Illinois which you quickly backpeddeld on when callled out about it.

I have no problem with that lineup. Except I don't want to see Meachem nor Frazier in it. Meachem and Randle almost make me ashamed to say I'm from Central Illinois.

it wasn't backpedaling, it was clarifying. think what you want, but enjoy penn state finishing ahead of you this year in conference

No you are backpedaling. You clearly stated that this was 2 programs passing each other with Penn State going up, and Illinois going down. If thats not saying you think Penn States program has passed Illinois, then I dont know what it is. It was an absurd statement, and you got called on it, no big deal. Hyperbole is spoke pretty often here, which is exactly what that was.

Regarding Penn State finishing ahead of us this year, enjoy it now, because it wont last long.

probably not.

oh, and enjoy Illinois football being good now. it won't last long ;)

Good argument. Although Penn State basketball and Illinois football are nowhere near the same. One has star recruits begging to come to the school, the other has to beg people to come play for them. Like I said enjoy your NIT bid.

Well, that's ridiculous hyperbole. Brian Randle is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I'll always be a huge fan of his because of the way he carries himself outside the court. Beyond that in the rare instances he does what he should be doing he's an amazing player.

I also don't see how you can be mad at Meachem. He wanted to walk on to the hometown school. It isn't his fault Weber did such a poor job recruiting that Trent is forced to start and carry the scoring load.

True, I didn't mean to imply Meacham was one to be embarrassed of, I just don't have the same experience with him.

Kansas will go just as far as it did last year. They have a big time achillies heel that will hurt them in the elite eight, their first close game. They shoot free throws at an illini like pace.

At risk of being flamed again by UI fans, I don't recall Derwood ever saying PSU had passed Illinois. What he said was that the two programs were going opposite directions. He did not say PSU was on a higher level.

Today was a game of programs passing each other, with PSU on an upswing and Illinois heading towards rock bottom.

take what you will from that.

So therefore, beckpeddaled :D Ok Im done

i think Penn State just got another offensive rebound

Posted

Hey I just wanted to vent about my school, see what y'all think.

So the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers are 7-7 so far. Meh Yuck!!

What is weird is that they have won four in row. What is even weirder is that they have lost or kicked out their leading scorer from last year before the season, their leading scorer(and rebounder, steals, etc.) this year, they lost their top recruit and second leading scorer(he left the team), and their second best recruit and forth leading scorer and 6th man(he left the team). The latter three left the team right before they went on this 4 game winning streak.

Just makes you shake your head.
