I know there is a faction that hates spending money on a "closer" and odds are, he'll end up back in NY...but if you'd put him at the end of the pen, trade Dempster, and You've got a 5 inning game for the starters...Howry, Wood, Marmol, Rivera...

yeah, we've got bigger needs...just looking at what's out there to be had this off season.

yankee for life, no way they let him get away

There is talk that they will not resign him.

I say no on a 39 year old relief pitcher that will command more than market value because of his name

will be 38 when next season starts

so this was the first season he's had since 2002 where his era was over 2. First since he was a starter in 95 that it was over 3. Ks, hits, and BBs are still good but slg is up a ton.

We already have the next Riviera...his name is Carlos Marmol.

and what better tutelage than to have the actual mariano helping him?

I think if the price were right, i'd bite. Coming over to a "weaker" NL could help him out.

What price were you thinking? He's been making more than 10 million a year for the last umpteen years.

If the Cubs have 10m to spend this offseason, I'd much rather see it spent improving SS or RF.

Yes. Spending that much on a reliever to add to an already expensive bullpen would be a tremendous misuse of assets.

So you're saying that it's a done deal that Hendry signs him?

No thanks on Rivera especially considering the money he's going to command.

Sure, why not? I mean, if we're gonna exercise Traschel's option, we might as well give multi-years to a 38 yr-old closer......in JH's world, that move makes perfect sense....
