We really need a word filter for "curse", "Bartman", and "goat".

Bullcrap, Homer, and cheese respectively.

By the way, has anyone other than some random Boston radio station mentioned this? Seems weird that someone in Boston would know about it, and no one else.

Yeah, that was my first thought. How does a Boston station with no motivation to find this story wind up breaking it/being the only ones to report it? Smacks of the New York Daily News telling us who's about to sign on the west coast during the offseason.

I just talked to someone with inside info and they verified this story, they also said that Sunday they will bring in a goat to sing it. :^o

No freaking way. He ruined our chance at the World Series. He, along with the goat, should be banned from Wrigley.*

*I do not believe any of what I just said, and I also don't believe this story. Sounds like complete crap to me.

Turning down some media vulture's request and turning down the opportunity to sing the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field during a playoff game are two totally different things. Especially if you're a lifelong Cubs fan.

I think he would receive a pretty warm ovation. My job requires almost 95% travel, and I'm often wearing my Cub cap at airports, hotels and bars around the country and other Cub fans always approach me and we start talking Cubs. Whenever the topic of Bartman comes up (which is pretty rare), I don't get any reaction other than "Poor guy". I've never heard a single person blame him for what happened in '04. But once or twice a year, some hack journalist decides to put the tired story in the microwave and reheat it up and of course the story is never "Once the heat of the moment passed he went back to living a normal life. No big deal." That's a boring story. It's got to be about his tortured soul, and then you got to troll around Wrigleyville bars to talk to some drunken lunkhead who says he would like to punch his teeth in and use those quotes in your story, and discard the other 99% of them that are positive or indifferent.

I would hope that Cub fans wouldn't boo him, but it would be a disaster if they did.

I think you wait until the Cubs win the WS first. Then the following season you have him sing the stretch, throw out the first pitch, and give him life time season tickets for his seat.

Did anyone hear/see on WGN news this morning about someone hanging a carcass of a goat on Caray's statue infront of Wrigley?

The only bad thing about the Cubs being in the playoffs is how much we have to hear about goats, Bartman, and 99 years talk. It's nauseating and the media just has a field day with it and never shuts up about it. Now we may have to watch Bartman sing the 7th inning stretch?

Geez, might as well I guess. That is all we hear about anyway. God, for nothing else I wish the Cubs would win it all just to negate all the silliness.

Yeah, those are some pretty sick people (I refuse to call them fans). They hung a skinned goat right out in the open. This tactic alone tells me that not only will Bartman get booed mercilessly if allowed to sing the stretch, but there will be a gaggle of drunken idiots waiting for him up by the press box.

Keep Bartman away for his own personal well-being.

This idea stinks on a number of levels. The primary one is that it's taking focus away from our main goal-making the NLCS. Why create a circus?

The world was paved with good intentions, & I believe this nice gesture would backfire big time. What the heck, just let him talk to Pat & Ron on the radio if they want to.

Alex Gonzalez, Moises Alou, Mark Prior and Dusty Baker should do a barbershop quartet version of the song instead.

BTW Congrats on the playoffs

Maybe we will meet in 3 weeks :D

Anyhow some Chicago sports announcer ( Chet Copick?) was just on WEEI Boston giving an overview of your series and he just added that the Cubs are inviting Steve Bartman to sing Take Me Out To The Ballgame on Saturday.

Maybe you Cub fans are a forgiving lot. If the same thing happened at Fenway somebody would shoot him.

Is this a good idea?

Doesn't matter...it isn't true.

Your contact is incorrect. He isn't singing and he wasn't invited to do so.
