That doesn't mean they'll actually use him. It's just saying that he's on the roster but won't start, and to tell everyone that he's being put on the roster just as an insurance policy doesn't sit well with people. So Marquis is technically available out of the bullpen, but the only place he likely would be used is the long reliever.

 

Baically there was noway the Cubs were going to leave him off the roster since its a well known fact about how pissed he was last year, and the fact he has 2 more years left on his deal here. All I know, they better not be trying to keep Marquis happy, and leave a guy like Hart, who deserves to make it, off just to satisfy Marquis.

I think you almost have to have Marquis on the roster for this series if you're planning on using him in the NLCS. You can't completely shred his confidence and come back to him in a big game 1.5 weeks from now.

 

I would think Soto will be the guy tomorrow based on how he answered that.

marquis is on the roster because something could go wrong with...i don't know...say...any of our starters and marquis will be relief...i really think this is a smart move...not a "stop crying jason...look little buddy...you are the roster...buck up!" type of move...

Any chance that can be translated as "I have to sit down and explain to the more veteran Kendall why I'm letting the rookie start in place of him" or am I just reading WAY too much into that.

There's absolutely no need for a 5th starter in the playoffs and Trachsel has never worked out of the bullpen before. Oh, and he sucks.

If Marquis has barely made the roster how will Trachsel make it? In this instance, I don't think we need assurances from anyone to know that a garbage pitcher like Trachsel will be off the roster.
