I stole this from another site, but it's very eye-opening. Jacque Jones was traded to the Marlins on June 26th... almost. We don't know what happened, why it never went through, who rejected it, etc. What we do know is that Jacque has been pretty awesome since that day. He's hit .325 with a .368 OBP and a .456 SLG% since that day.

Jacque has been slammed here numerous times, and he's been given crap numerous times at Wrigley too. But to his credit, when he was at his worst, he found a way to get through it and have one hell of a second half. Better than nearly every other ML CF-er. I thought I'd start a thread to recognize how solid he was in the second half. I didn't realize his numbers were this good, I'm sure most others didn't either.

Great job, Jacque! And here's to an awesome postseason!

Unlike many, I never hated Jacque Jones. Up until late June he was a career mediocre player who was smart enough to take a $15 million contract from a bad general manager who stupidly didn't know the market value of Jones. Having said that, no one should argue with someone if they suggest Jacque was the Cubs' MVP after the all-star break. He definitely did well. Not only has his bat been a surprise, but over the course of the season he robbed several teams of hits and helped the Cubs' ERA by saving a lot of runs with his defense.

His power is still completely AWOL.

Not really. Career .455 slugging, and since that trade it's been .468. His homers are down though, made up for by a few more doubles.

Overlooking a few whiffs on routine fly balls "lost in the lights".

But yeah, the non-trade worked out well for the Cubs.

We will never know if it would have been a good trade or not. Pie might have gotten a chance to break in, and be lights out heading into the playoffs. The pitcher the Cubs were getting may have developed into a 1 -2 starter for years to come, so many intangibles.

I'm glad Jacque stuck around and I hope he gets to win a ring with the Cubs. Great to see a guy who always seems like he is having fun playing ball.

One thing that drives me nuts is his little attitude every time they ask him about the fans or the non-trade. He seems to have that Dusty, me against the world attitude. Sure, some fans are ignorant and have hated him from day one, but many more fans have understood that he just took advantage of the market, and like the way he plays. He needs to stop worrying about the minority of people that don't like him, and realize he has lots of fans that do.

As with life, the vocal minority are the ones being heard and not the majority. The person who says, "Way to go, Jacque, great job" probably says it once while the ones who boo continue to boo for several minutes.

I get your point, but I think you'd have to argue with that person. He was our 4th most productive hitter PostASB. That's not to take anything away from him. It was a nice second half for Jacque, and we needed it.

Post-ASB:

ARam: .308 .375 .542 .917 11 HR

DLee : .302 .386 .554 .940 16 HR

Fonz: .299 .337 .560 .897 18 HR

Jock: .332 .374 .458 .832 3 HR
