Evgeni Malkin- great player or greatest player?

as good as crosby, maybe better. people are sorta starting to figure this out since crosby has been out and malkin has pretty much put the team's scoring on his shoulders.

I really wonder what Pittsburgh will do for the next few years. Putting Malkin on Crosby's wing makes him a less effective (still great nonetheless) player but putting him on the 2nd line is going to limit the ice time for both great players and then you have Jordan Staal and in a year or two when he fully breaks out they're really not going to have enough ice time to go around, some of these guys' talent will be squandered when they can't get on the ice enough.

You have to wonder if Staal gets dealt for a winger.

there's also the money issue. malkin and crosby will both merit contracts around what ovechkin got - if not in length then at least in annual salary. if you are paying two guys close to $20m per year, that really handcuffs how much talent you can put around them. it's a catch 22... how do you let a crosby or a malkin get away? but how do you try to surround them with enough talent to win a championship?

Huge win for the Canucks today. After the Hawks scored late, I thought for sure that it was over.

Oh and Khabibulin is a punk.

that win might propel them to a playoff birth and another first round loss. its too bad luongo is being wasted on that vancouver team. such a great goalie but has absolutely no talent around him and wont sniff a cup unless major changes are made

Major changes? They are 1 high end forward or two good forwards away from being serious contenders. They are set in goal and on D for the next 2 years at least. And they lost in the 2nd round last year.

I know as much about the NHL as I do about Kenyan marble shooting.

Who is this Zednik guy? Is he an all-star type player? Journeyman?

I would say somewhere in the middle.

ryan kesler + 1st for sundin.

just a guess.

I wouldn't do that trade, and it would probably take more to get Sundin. I'd rather wait this year out, let Naslund and Morrisons contract run out and go from there.

with that extra money they'd just give the twins and luongo raises.

The Sedins have another year to go before their contracts expire and Luongo has two.

I don't think this year is the Canucks best shot at a cup. If they are going to mortgage the future I'd rather it be when it would put them over the top.

Hawks won their third straight game today, 2-1 over the Avalanche at home, and they announced that they sold every single United Center ticket, including standing room, for this game -- the first time that's happened since the inaugural season of the UC. Great to hear. Also, this team is only 6 points out of the final playoff spot now, they definitely have a shot.

Rumored to sign Forsberg too. Maybe this team still does have a shot.

TSN reporting today that Forsberg won't be returning to the NHL, doesn't feel confident enough in his foot.

the 1st period was awesome for both teams, great action, but it seemed like the Hawks wore down in the 2nd and St. Louis out-worked them for the most part. Also didn't help that we allowed their league-worst PP to score 3 times, while we couldn't do crap on the PP. Tough loss.

Being outshot by close to a 2 to 1 margin is also never a good thing.

hahahahaha philadelphia gave up anything for jaroslav modry. have fun with that one.

we had jim vandermeer in the lineup. it's hard to get much worse than that.

and modry is a +2 on the year, pretty good considering that he's been on a horrible team. the next best among regular defensemen was a -9 from preissing.

in other news, the flyers managed to lose their 10th consecutive shootout last night. that's not easy.

+/- is such a bad stat. preissing would be the kings second worse defensive defenseman, btw.

he's slow, he's not physical, he's bad positionally, he has a bad shot, and he's not a very good passer.

him being in the NHL is rather inexplicable.

hahahaha flyers outplay florida badly all game and only get 1 goal, then they're 4 seconds from breaking a 9 game winless streak, and some florida guy fires the punk blindly in front of the net and it deflects off one of our guys and into the net. classic. and mike richards hurt his leg a few minutes earlier. wait til 2009.

oh and craig anderson, who really isn't good, has 40 saves on 41 shots. the flyers are to bad goalies what the cubs are to mediocre LHP.

haha awesome, randy jones proves yet again that he can't defend anybody one-on-one to save his life, gets abused by david booth (another guy who isn't good) and takes a penalty, and the panthers score right away on the pp.

oh well, the positive thing about this collapse is that john stevens' chances of getting fired have gone up exponentially in the last 3 weeks.
