BOTTOM OF THE NINTH INNING

 

Dempster in to pitch for the CUBS

Loretta singled to first base

Anderson in to pinch run for Loretta

Lamb, pinch hitting for Wigginton, tripled to right center field , Anderson scored

Scott grounded out to third, 5-3 , Lamb holding third

Palmeiro, pinch hitting for Quintero, walked

Bruntlett in to pinch run for Palmeiro

Munson, pinch hitting for Borkowski, grounded into a DP, 3-6-1, Bruntlett out at second

 

1 runs 2 hits 0 errors 1 men left on base

Right there is why the Cubs go the playoffs this year if they do end up winning it. The Brewers give up an extra run every other game defensively, Cubs save an extra run every 2 to 3 games with good defense.

I'm not excusing the hit he gave up (compunded by Pie's fielding) or the walk, but when the tone is set by an easy grounder flying off of 1B like that, well, you gotta be willing to chalk up the "unlucky" if you're only going to say he got "lucky."

The Astros just went Cub on the Cubs by stranding a runner on third with no outs.

 

You mean Dempster went opposing pitcher on the Stros.

 

GREAT JOB by Dempster after giving up one actual hit.
