Carlos Guillen if he's really available.

Have similar issues with Guillen as I have with Tejada. Is gonna be 32 next year (actually turns 32 sunday). Won't be able to handle SS defensively much longer, if he can now. He has 52 errors there the last 2 years, with a fielding % under .960.....well worse than his career numbers. He's been pretty bad in the 2nd half of the season, with a .723 OPS since the break. He's still been better than Tejada, offensively, in recent years, so he is a better option than Miggy, IMO.

Between Guillen, Tejada and Renteria, the Cubs should be able to upgrade SS next year if they are willing to trade. Renteria would probably be the cheapest to acquire talent-wise, but has a good chance of being least productive offensively, but best defensively. Guillen would likely be the most attractive offensively and the least attractive defensively, and would probably cost the most to acquire. Tejada is probably the biggest injury risk, despite being the youngest of the group (all will be 32 next year).

At this point, I'd probably go Renteria, Guillen, Tejada if all are available, simply because of what I think it would take to get each.

I posted this in Meph's crazy Barry Bonds thread but it might be better served here

I'd like to see the Cubs use their most promising chips to trade for Johan Santana, if he really is available. He doesn't seem too happy in Minnesota.

Pie + Marshall + Gallagher. Or whatever it takes besides Hill. I might even trade Hill.

Then I'd like to see them go after Andruw Jones for CF. There will be a glut of competent CFers on the market this year.

If they do this they don't have to worry about overpaying for aging middle infielders (except for A-Rod, if he's available).

You "might" give up Hill for Santana? I'd give any single player on the team for Johan. Yes, that includes Lee, Ramirez, Soriano and Zambrano. I'd probably add Pie and/or Marshall with anybody but Ramirez.

Ok Hill + Pie. Do you think the Cubs have the talent to get him?

I really suck at trade proposals.

Bill Plaschke, of the Los Angeles Times, reports Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti is more open to trading some of the team's younger players in order to acquire veterans this offseason, according to sources with the team. The player most mentioned to be moved is OF Matt Kemp. They feel the team needs more leadership from veterans if they are to contend.

If this is true, do you think Jacque Jones constitutes a veteran leader? B/c I'd love to have Matt Kemp, the 23-year-old with the .873 OPS.

That would be great, but you had better hope Mark Cuban becomes the owner because they would have a $200 million payroll.

They will laught at you if you offer Hill and Pie. We have the talent to get him.

Are the two of them dumb enough to do a deal involving Lee & Jones for Loney & Kemp? I'd love something along those lines.

Wow, looks like we know which side Colletti is favoring in the open feud between Luis Gonzalez/Jeff Kent and Andre Ethier/Matt Kemp/James Loney. Stupid man, look where the veteran leaders got you.

they'll be too busy sorting out the ownership situation to do anything.

Unfortunately, I believe this is correct. The sale to whomever will not be complete until probably January or February. By then the dust will have settled and movement completed (for the most part).

That's fantastic news. It's always good when other NL teams make stupid decisions.

Unless he trades Kemp to the Cards for Edmonds.

Wow! Did these guys not watch Russell Martin, James Loney, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, etc...?

There's a huge feud going on between Ethier, Kemp and Loney vs. Luis Gonzalez and Jeff Kent (young guys not respecting the veterans, veterans losing PT, blaming the young guys for the Dodgers tanking in August, not trading any of the young guys for veteran help at the trade deadline, etc.). So far Russell Martin and Chad Billingsley have stayed above the fray.

It's weird if they side with the veterans seeing as Kent and Gonzalez have their contracts up this season.

Heh, that's the story I got all my info from. Dodger fans are steamed that Kemp might be on his way out because of this.

I love how David Wells can comment on the situation after being on the team for a few weeks.
