Of course Soriano should lead off instead of Theriot /rolleyes

people have proven that lineup order has little affect on outcomes of games

Not to mention that why people have been saying this, Theriot has been terrible lately before today:

Here's his August line: .288/.306/.339

And here is his last 7 days:

.250/.241/.286

Both of those are coming into play today.

stop ruining Cynosure's perceptions of reality!

So show me your 'people' that have proven it doesn't matter who your leadoff hitter is.

i believe the 'people' was either bill james or baseball prospectus. i'm sure someone here can provide you with the link

I'm not gonna start an argument in the gamethread, I'd be interested to read it. But I don't see how it has no affect. Maybe not on one specific game, but simple logic leads me to believe that over the course of a season if you have a lead-off hitter that gets on base more than someone else, that it has some affect over the season.

Bill James has pretty much proven that lineup order doesn't matter.

Nice, Jason get two quick outs after you've already blown a 4 run lead.

Dont worry now he will give up 3 with 2 outs

yeah I kind of figured I shouldn't have said anything until the inning was over.

Ok...I like Murton and all, but HOW can he be this bad in the outfield? He's as bad or worse than Dunn.

That was a double no matter what, I fail to see the problem. The ground is extremely wet.

If he plays without a helmet, you would think he is on Reds team ;)

Guess not, he must be waiting for us to take the lead again, so he can give it right up, thats alot more fun

Line-up order doesn't matter? Yea right! That's false, I can see the logic in the lead-off batter not mattering as much. But what you said is 100% completely false. You have to protect your best hitters, and that is a fact.

Case and point to shut this one down: You have Ramirez or Cedeno behind Lee... They will walk Lee to get to Cedeno. They would never walk Lee with Ramirez behind him, come on, think.

There was absolutely no way it was going to be a double. If you watch the replay, after Murton misplays it, you then see Valentin pick up the pace and take 2nd. He was going to stay at 1st otherwise. When Valentin hit the 1st base bag, he was jogging-he wasn't going anywhere.

Why is it fact, because you say so? Its been proven by Bill James what is so hard about understanding that?

Oh so tell me... it would be just as logical to bat Cedeno behind Lee as it would be to bat Ramirez behind Lee... are you dense?
