Daily Southtown - According to Sports Illustrated's Web site, White Sox right-hander Jose Contreras has cleared waivers, meaning he can be traded.

Though Contreras is due $10 million over each of the next two seasons, he's pitched well in each of his two relief appearances. Contreras, who is scheduled to start Friday for the Sox at Seattle, could be a valuable piece for a contender. (Postseason rosters must be set by Aug. 31.)

"When he wasn't right, velocity was down, command was down, confidence was down," Sox pitching coach Don Cooper said. "Over the last two times coming out of the bullpen, all three of those things are up. They're back. We saw the guy we know."

No one wants the guy unless the White Sox eat all of the 20 million dollars owed to him. Edited by Rusch33

If he hadn't cleared waivers and the White Sox had pulled him back I would have double crapped.

Surely they would have dumped him to get out of that contract.

Prediction: Hendry goes out and gets him and says his stupid quote something like " This guy has a world series and tons of expirience under his belt,he is the missing piece to the puzzle"

"Obviously, we like Jose a lot. He's a quality, quality guy.", said Hendry, speaking via teleconference. "We hate to give up three talented players like Gallagher, Soto, and Colvin, but you have to give something to get something. In this market, the price of poker is high. Obviously, we wish the youngsters well. I believe Kenny is happy with his half of the deal."

"We're excited to have Contreras under contract for a couple more seasons.", Hendry added. "And, what with recently having gotten Kendall and Floyd extended, we felt we owed it to Soto and Colvin to send them somewhere they'd be able to play sooner rather than later."

Of course the guy's got tons of experience. He's really 50, isn't he?

If Hendry isn't going to trade Marshall or Rich Hill for Ken Griffey Jr., he isn't going to get Jose.
