Murton is about the equal to Soriano. Murton, if given consistent playing time, hits for .300+ average, 30 homers, and has a higher OBP than Soriano. Murton's hit 3 homers in the last 4 games. Soriano has more errors than Murton did all year last year and yet Murton gets criticized for his defense. Basically, the worst GM in baseball paid 136 million to a guy when Murton can basically do the same thing with only a six-figure contract. Way to waste money Hendry! The outfield should have been from the beginning.......Murton, Pie, Jones. That's a great outfield with defense and offense. Cheap too and we would be able to afford Zambrano to whatever money he wants.

Soriano is a 5 tool player.

Murton has a decent bat, and all his other tools are enough for him to be a starter on a bad to decent team or a bench player for a good to great team.

There is no way Murton hits 30 homers a year except in AAA. Both are bad fielders, but Soriano has one of the best arms (when you look at power and accuracy) in the league. I think Soriano is more than a 30 homer guy too. Plus, Soriano can steal bases. The Cubs needed a leadoff man and they got one. Yes they terribly overpaid, but if the Cubs win the WS with Soriano's help no one will care.

I think people are actually in love with Murton, hey boss...listen....talent is talent...wishing someone has talent does not infuse talent....talent is expressed over time...

 

Soriano might not be having a 40-40 season but he has established himself as talented player, his defense is good at catching most balls but more so in throwing out runners who take a chance, his baserunning is more than average but not statistically driven, (he got hurt aggressively running the bases) and his batting is solid...he was in the top 5-7 in runs scored....and leading the team in HR's.

 

Murton is probably a top 75 OF'er in the league, his ceiling might be top 25 in a given career year, maybe top 20. He is no Pujols, best would be an Alou...
