Ok, I know slumps are a part of baseball... but Lee is:

0/14 in his last 14 at bats.

2/22 in his last 22 at bats.

But what is really bothering me isn't his "slump". It's that he looks uncomfortable on his swings like there is something wrong with his back. Anyone else noticed this?

He clearly dosen't look the same to me..When he swings, he stroke looks alot different than last year and '05, it seems he is off the plate alot more, he use to be in alot more and had alot more plate coverage and would kill the ball even if it was inside or outside

Well "hurt" can mean different things I guess as far as severity. I don't think he has some terrible injury. What I am worried about is if it is his back... that we just wait until the playoffs and then all of a sudden he can't play. There is something wrong with his swing and I don't think it's only mechanical.

It's nearly mid-August, they're all hurting one way or another...

At least that's what you hear everyone say about the grueling 162 game season at this point in the year. But, yeah, Derrek isn't playing like himself. He's either hurt or is letting a slump affect his mechanics; his swings (and non-swings) don't like him.

Another thing is... he had just got his nice power stroke back and was batting .330, then ALL OF A SUDDEN this new Derrek Lee that came about and is 2/22 and swinging unlike how he has been swinging all year.

i'm bothered by his general unwillingness to swing at straight fastballs right down the middle

No kidding. He looks terrified of swinging.

Agreed. I'm much more concerned with him watching a ton of hittable pitches going by and then seemingly trying to make up for it by hacking at terrible ones.

So you're saying he's 2 for his last 8?

Well, that's a lot better than 2/22....sample size be damned.

2/8??

Sorry, I'm a moron. It's early in the morning. He was 2/8 before the 0/16, not after, duh.

DLee has been part of our offensive struggles. With no power and now that his avg is getting lower and lower he might have to be moved from the #3 spot.

And replaced by...

I think Murton could do it, he's starting to hit for power.

How about this lineup

Theriot SS

Kendal C

Murton LF(or RF)

Ramirez 3B

Soriano RF(or LF)

DeRosa/Fontenot 2B

Lee 1B

Pie CF

Pitcher

I'm a big Murton fan, but this is insane. Lee to the 7th spot because of 22 ABs? Murton to the 3 spot because of about the same? Lee, Ramirez, and Soriano are clearly our 3 best hitters pretty easily.

This is another one of your jokes, right?

Like every other Cub fan I scratch my head daily to find out the answers for the lineup.

That was just a suggestion that goes along with the million other ones cubs fans have tried to figure out.

We're desperate to find the best lineup.

In another lineup effort how about if we interchange Murton and Sori?

I think the main reason you were criticized for that order was D-Lee hitting 7th. We need to ride out this slump -- he's still the best hitter in the lineup when Sori and A-ram are out.
