In the first tonight the Cubs had bases loaded with no outs and one run already in. Then a strikeout, pop up to short and fly out to right. In the 7th, a home run led off the inning followed by a single and error on the RF that put a runner on 2nd with no outs and our 3, 4 and 5 hitters coming up. CALLED OUT on strikes, CALLED OUT on strikes and ground out.

What the hell kind of baseball is that? 2006 Cubs baseball.

13 strikeouts in each of the last two games. it's hard to score runs when you can't even put the ball in play. and it's not just the young guys, either.

This team is what we bought. You should remember it from the beginning of the year when it was this way as well.

Lou is a terrible manager, and the results are finally showing up.

The last two months were a nice distraction, but reality has now set in: the WS drought will hit triple digits next season.

Cubs baseball: 100 years and counting.

so i'm guessing everyone else is feeling a really dreadful august coming on?

the ridiculous part is that the brewers are playing worse, and we can't catch them.

There's no reason the Cubs aren't at least 3 games up on them.

Jerks.

Would help if you better explained the correlation between Lou and how badly the Cubs are doing of late...

right...i will try to chime in here...

it is late and i am tired...so...if i just skim the surface i will try to give some more info in the morning...

Piniella Piniella Piniella...

1. he has a problem with matt murton

2. he starts angel pagan

3. he slots cedeno in the 2 hole

4. he already blatantly said that he wasn't sure what to do with the outfield after soriano got injured...

4. this one is not hard to figure out

let me lay it out for the folks here...

floyd...PINCH HITTER

LF: Murton/Patterson (technically i can't stand platoons, but we know that lou apparently loves them)

CF: Pie/Patterson (oh noes! two lefties! oh friggin well)

RF: Jacque Jones/Pie/Derosa

SS: Theriot

2nd: Derosa/Fontenot

easy

done

simple

finished

let them play

Piniella will not do this and we will now start a painful skid into oblivion

Hey guys its only a few games.......remember the brewers are losing and plus StL lost today too. Nothing hurt today, were still only 1 game out with 50 games to go. As you can see in the last couple weeks that no lead is safe for Milwaukee cuz they seem to find a way to blow it. Dont panic yet and dont give up on the season yet. Maybe Lou will finally realize Floyd is fragile and put Murton in the line up more now after hittin that home run tonight. I think EPat is gonna provide a lil spark at the top of the lineup too, that boy is fast. If he gets on base he can cause some havoc on the bases. So I ask again please dont panic just quite yet.

Call me a fool, but I'm still optomistic about this team. There is a long way to go, and the Cubs are going to sack up and put at least one more big winning streak on the books.

True it is only a few games, but over the last few weeks a trend as developed. Is it coincidence we started playing lackluster ball after Lou made decided to start Jones in CF and Hendry brought in yet another poor defensive catcher? I need to look up the actual line ups and playing time during the winning streak after June 3rd. For the most part we had a better defensive line up with Bowen/Hill catching and Pie/Pagan in Center. True we didn't get any offense out of those players, yet the Cubs won a lot of games....and scored runs. Then the Hendry/Piniella tinkering began (again) and it looks like the return of the April/May losing squad. Kendall is Barrett all over again and Jones is Jones. Without power, I don't see how Jones adds any value to a major league team. I know on most of these points I am preaching to the choir.

Is there an easy way to look up the starting line up with the best winning % starting June 3rd to present?

They couldn't keep up the hot streak forever, but it is sad seeing them lose their fundamentals.

Not really, but you can count them up here:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/2007_lu.shtml

The Cubs are 14-7 when Pie starts in CF since June 3rd

The Cubs are 14-7 when Jones starts in CF since June 3rd

The Cubs are 8-9 when Pagan starts in CF since June 3rd

Kendall has a little more evidence for your contention (the Cubs are 7-9 when Kendall starts) but considering that the biggest problem for the Cubs during those games is bad offense, and considering Kendall brings better offense then either Koyie Hill or Bowen, the switch to Kendall was not the reason the Cubs started losing.

Welcome to the board btw.

The worse part is the Cubs put up practically the same number of base runners as the Astros in the 3-game series (34 for Cubs, 35 for Astros), but were out scored 15-5.

That 2-for-33 with RiSP was something wicked brutal.

I'm kind of disappointed that they got those two. They didn't come until the third game was already over, and Riot didn't even score on the second one. I thought they would finish the 0-fer.

The Cubs winning percentage with Pagan has less to do with him, and more to do with the fact that with Pagan in the lineup we're almost certainly facing a Lefty.
