You know what this means?

More Cliff Floyd, baby!

I could easily get by with a Pie/Murton/Patterson OF. I could care less about Floyd starting, and I actually hate Jones and Pagan, so its easy for me.

Somebody mail Floyd to another continent.

What...2 HRs and 4 doubles in the last two and a half months don't cut it?

Its like bass fishing, you just put the line out there and watch the birds go by, then wait it out and eventually the line will pull, the lure is enticing, the water will start to sway, the birds will fly by again, and you can go home knowing your fish is out there. Thats just how veterans get out of their slumps.

Good call whoever started this thread. According to prosportsdaily, Stewart has been claimed by the Cubs, sop Oakland has the options or trading him to the Cubs or pulling himoff waivers, and Im assuming theyll trade him.

Floyd's contract for next year kicks in with 425 PA or 100 GS. He's only got 243 PA to this point, and it looks like he's started 58 games.

Is Floyd on pace to hit his AB incentive?

I'd say no -- he likely won't get to the 425 plate appearance (he has 243) he needs and he's only started 56 games and needs to start 100 for the '08 option to vest. He would have to start 44 of the Cubs 49 remaining games and, thankfully, that's not likely to happen with how Lou's been mixing and matching outfielders.

Can't they also deal a PTBNL (someone on the 40-man that may not have cleared waivers, but would be transferred to Oakland's roster after the season)? Then a spot for Stewart on the 40-man roster could be opened by transferring Blanco to the 60-day DL.

I'm not sure you can included somebody on the 40 man roster as a PTBNL.

I believe the only restriction is that can't have played in the same league in the same season they are traded as a PTBNL.

I don't even think it's that restrictive. I believe the rule is that the player can't be playing in the same league at the time of the trade (rather than anytime in the season). After all, I believe Bobby Hill had played for the Cubs earlier in 2003 before he went to Pittsburgh as a PTBNL in the Lofton/Ramirez trade.

After claiming Stewart off waivers from Oakland, Hendry and the Cubs apparently failed to strike a deal, and he'll stayb with the A's. Back to the drawing board hendry, or else you may end up under the same bus as Sammy and Dusty.

Stewart may not be Griffey, or even Dunn, but with a .298 avg. and 9 hr this season, Id take him over any of our current outfielders.

They still have a chance at Stewart according to chicagosports.com

I know he's not much, but he's better than Cliff Floyd and that's good enough for me.

so the Cubs had until today at noon to make a deal for Stewart, right?

Yes. I was in the car at noon today but didn't hear if anything came of it.

Oh well. He wouldn't have been a huge difference maker, but it would've been nice to keep Floyd on the bench.
