Question on potential waiver wire help

There's been some speculation that Tejada could clear waivers given his injury and contract.

 

Guys that often clear waivers are players with large contracts that not everyone can afford to absorb. Teams are a little reluctant to try to claim a player with a large contract in fear that they might get stuck with him...ala San Diego with Randy Myers a few years back.

 

San Diego didn't want Randy Myers. They didn't want the Dodgers or Giants (can't remember which team) to have him, so they claimed him. It sort of worked considering the Padres won the division. But, San Diego did pay Myers for the rest of 1998 for 14 innings of work, and nearly another 14m combined for 1999 and 2000 for 0 innings pitched. Ouch.
