Cannot believe we're standing pat.

While status quo might get us in the playoffs, mentioning this team in the same breath as championship caliber (i.e. the Red Sox) is laughable.

Jermaine Dye pleasee!!!

Luckily, championship caliber means very little when it comes to actually winning championships.

Playoffs are a crapshoot. Sometimes the best teams win, sometimes they don't.

Sure, the better teams have better odds going in, but there's too much room for variance to come into play for it to matter all that much.

I'm not going to go nuts yet, as I remember the Garciaparra thing wasn't announced until after the deadline was it? Hopefully we run into something like that this year.

I love how people assume things like

a) if no deal gets done, Hendry must be/have been sitting on his hands and not trying to get anything done

b) if no deal is announced yet, nothing is done or has gotten done

You know what they say about assumptions...

Can't you guys just wait and see what (if anything) is gonna happen?

Thank you!

Seconded

Why in the world would anyone ever do that? :D

If Hendry had bothered to build a good OF, we wouldn't be in this spot where we're hoping for Jermaine Dye or Ryan Church.

Seriously, it's sad.

With the Cubs history, I don't see why anybody would begrudge a Cubs fan's right to prematurely assume failure.

Soriano, Jones, Floyd isn't that bad on paper if you look at their last healthy seasons.

Ok i'm prepeared to get stoned for this............ I would roll the dice and trade Marmol for Dye. I'm hoping on 2 things, wood comes back and lasts through the playoffs. I'm also gambling on Dye continuing to hit as he has since the all-star break. He is the best RH bat available and gives us the best chance of winning. We need some pop this year not next year and i'm sick of waiting for the prospects to pan out. I do think we could get better value for marmol in the off season but will we have the chance to win this division as we have this year? Let the stoning begin!!!

I'm not gonna stone you. I want to win now. I can live without Marmol this year if it means we win a championship. However, getting Dye does not guarentee that and Marmol has the potential to be unhittable for many years.

I wish I had a crystal ball.

Absolutely. It's our birthright.

there is always room to improve on a team, no matter what. Not making a big move is very disapointing. Jim screwed up big time, by not improving this team, and its a shame.

Everyone needs to call down. Jeff Conine will clear waivers, we will deal for him, and he will provide the moster bat in RF that will power us in the postseason.

If you need a cavaet to say that you aren't bad, that means you are bad.

T-minus 3 minutes.

until 3 more hours of announcing deals that have to be finalized

At least there were reports by now that Nomar was almost a Cub. All we've heard about Dye is that we inquired.

He won't be a Cub.
