Apparently, we just traded Bob Sanders to the Brewefan.net board for a Poster to be Named Later.

Where's all the Cubs' talk already? This waiting stuff sucks.

Proctor/Betemit final now according to Rotoworld, I updated the first page. BUt now it's time for me to leave for work. I'll be back on at work if I can. But if a mod would update the first page for me it'd be appreciated. Thanks!

670 is just doing Bears' talk. You'd figure they would be discussing baseball because of the trade deadline, but they're live from Bears' camp and are only discussing the Bears.

And I honestly don't mind it one bit. I'm absolutely giddy like a school girl about the 2007 Bears.

Was the last major deadline deal Nomar to the Cubs?

Teixeira doesn't count?

One thing to remember is that Hendry has shown an ability to get it done at the 11th hour. Nomar and Lawton were both right at the deadline.

I still think Hendry has something up his sleeve.

My hopes are going down the drain.

I expected to see some activity this morning, and there really isn't very much activity.

Unfortunately neither of those helped us. Hopefully Tex doesn't have much of an impact for the Braves either. I suspect he will though.

I could care less...I'm in full-on baseball mode right now.

I agree, but did Hendry ever come out before and just say he wasn't going to do anything major? His quotes don't make me feel too confident.

Rob, you hinted in yesterday's blog that you felt that the potential inductees of the new Veterans Committee system might lower the standards of the Hall. Do you think the old system which made induction nearly impossible was better? After all, maybe none of those guys deserved to be in anyway.

ROB NEYER

Well, look at this way: Are the standards better maintained by excluding Ron Santo . . . or by including Santo and three or four other, less-deserving candidates?

Michael Chicago, IL

Rob - are you really saying that Ron Santo does not belong in the Hall of Fame?

ROB NEYER

Of course not. I'm saying that when you change the rules to get Santo in, it won't stop with him. The Hall of Fame is a better place with him included, but it's a worse place if he's joined by a bunch of guys who really don't belong. Tony Oliva, for instance.

Nomar's .820 OPS as our SS in 2004 most definitely helped us. It just didn't keep us from collapsing in the sickest cold streak ever in the final 10 games.

Meh.. August = dog days.

I'll still be watching every Cubs game along the way, but I won't be jacked up about baseball again until closer to September.

I always tend to get excited about the upcoming seasons for my teams around camp time (spring training, training camp, etc.)...

I'm jacked up everyday of the year for baseball. I'm a Cubs fan first and I'm not emotionally attached to any other sport or team.
