If we have something like a 5-2 home stand this week, any doubts I've had about our chances of making the playoffs this year will be erased.

A 5-2 home stand would be very respectable, especially considering it's the Mets and the Phillies coming in.

Respectable? A 5-2 homestand is awesome if it's against the Nationals and Pirates. If it's against the Mets and Phillies, it's nothing short of fantastic.

You are 100% correct. I'm hoping for a 4-3 homestand.

Sounds good to me. Anything else would be gravy.

one of the best pitching match ups (on paper) we've seen all year

Yeah, aside from Buehrle v. Zambrano(and I was there, hooray), no others immediately spring to mind.

EDIT: Zambrano v. Young was pretty dynamite too.

don't we get Zambrano vs. Maine during the Mets series too?

The way I set up the database, I can only list one network as broadcasting the game. However, some the games that have been on ESPN were also on another network, and I didn't give myself a way to account for this. Anyhow, these are the games I show as being on ESPN............

Gm# Date Opponent Score Starter Opp Starter
36 Mon 05/14 @ New York N 4- 5 Marquis Glavine
61 Sun 06/10 @ Atlanta N 4- 5 Lilly Carlyle
91 Mon 07/16 San Francisco N 3- 2 Hill Lincecum

I know there were more.

Create a seperate table in your database for networks, and in that table, list the network and the game in each row. You can account for multiple networks since that will be two rows in that table, both associated with the same game.

So if we win today, who officially takes over 1st place? Are there "in-season" tiebreakers in place to determine who is 1st in the division should the top two teams have played a different number of games? Is it winning percentage?

I know this doesn't really matter, but just for record-keeping purposes....

We'd be tied in the standings, but percentage points ahead I believe.

I wonder what's our record on WGN?

CUBS are 27-19 when WGN broadcasts the game
CUBS are 19-19 when CSN broadcasts the game
CUBS are 5-2 when FOX broadcasts the game
CUBS are 1-2 when ESPN broadcasts the game
CUBS are 0-3 when WCIU broadcasts the game
CUBS are 3-3 when CSN+ broadcasts the game

The tiebreaker is usually alphabetical order when two teams are tied for how they are printed in the standings.

We would have a higher winning PCT than the Brewers if we win tonight, but the difference rounds out.
