Once again we call up a kid whos hot down in AAA, only to have him sit his ass on the bench. Why call Murton up if you arent going to use him?Same goes for Cedeno, there is no point in them being here, if they arent going to play.

Who on earth do you want benched for Cedeno?

.225 .319 .544 OPS those are the numbers since the All Star Break of one of our starting middle infielders.

Why is Murton even on this team if we're not going to play him?

Same can be asked for Cedeno

No it can't. Where is he gonna play? 2nd over DeRosa/Fontenot? SS over Theriot? 3rd over Rammy

The guys in front of him right now are hot. Theriot's getting on base at a ridiculous pace lately. Murton on the other hand should get some playing time here although in Murton's AB last night, he looked pretty damn bad.

Why people are inferring that just because Murton is sitting means they're going to trade him is beyond me. If the Cubs were "showcasing" him, they'd play him. Lou said he wanted to give Jones and Floyd the day off and that he wanted to play DeRosa. But he also wanted left-handed bats in there. Hence, Fontenot and Pagan. From talking to Cubs people as recently as last night, I don't believe any trade is imminent. That might change between now and Tuesday, but to link Murton not playing to him being traded doesn't necessarily hang together. Also, Lou is very direct and has a hard time playing the "trick the media and public" game by engaging in double talk. When he gives his reasons, he's been pretty consistently believable.

Like him saying Kendall and Hill were going to alternate starts? Or how Cedeno and Theriot were going to split time at SS? Lou says alot of stuff, and then does the exact opposite.

And so what? He's got the hammer, and he's going to use it. I don't recall him saying Cedeno and Theriot were going to split time. He did say Theriot would need days off. Things change as time goes on, and any manager reserves the right to change his mind. Lou doesn't give one dam* what anybody thinks (including us) as long as the team is winning. I kind of like it.

So you're saying you would rather have Cedeno who has been a AAAA player over one of our best hitters in DeRo since he's been in a slump? Does that mean you want Soriano out of the lineup too?

I agree... Theriot has shown he should be the everyday SS and doesn't really need time off. Kendall has had some good games with the bat, so might as well leave him in for a few... Whatever it takes to win

Fontenot has been terrible for about a month now, so he should be behind Cedeno for the time being. There's no reason to call Cedeno up and let him ride on the bench. He hasn't shown the power or patience to be a bench option at the major league level. He's not a gifted base runner (though he has good speed), and he isn't exceptional defensively. The only reason you call him up is to see if he actually learned anything when he went back to the minors. Using him sporadically off the bench tells you nothing about any progress he made.

and let's stop basing anything on one at-bat, please. saying he looked terrible in his one AB last night after he was yanked from the starting lineup 15 minutes before game time is meaningless and contributes nothing to the conversation.

Why even have him here?

Because we are in a playoff race and he's the best player available in our system. If it's April, he's probably starting at AAA. But it's not, it's almost August, and we need our 25 best players in Chicago.

Those numbers arent Derosas

Ding ding ding, Fontenot is the one who is putting up a sub .600 OPS since the All Star Break.

I remember reading Lou saying that him and Theriot would split time, but I dont remember where. And Im happy Lou doesnt give a damn what anybody thinks, but if he thinks Murton or Cedeno will continue their hot hitting getting 1 AB a game, hes wrong. The way Floyd has been hitting, there really is no reason for Murt to not get a shot in RF. Instead hes been relegated to the bench once again. Same goes for Cedeno, we have a starting 2nd baseman who has a sub .600 OPS, but Cedeno cant get a shot?

All I can tell you is they're even in the loss column with the first-place team in the division. Somebody has been doing something right for a month and a half or so. Let's see how it plays out the rest of the way.

I agree with you completely on the Murton front but not so much on Ronny.

I think most here would agree that we are best off with Theriot at SS, DeRosa at 2nd and a Murton/Floyd platoon in the OF with Cedeno getting the occasional start in the INF.

In all fairness, it's not like Fontenot is playing every day. And also no manager really wants to send out 8 rightys against RHP.

In all fairness, hes had more than 1 AB in all but 2 games in the last 10. Ronny has 6 ab's since being called up.

I have no problem with Derosa, but Fontenot has completely cooled off since the break, and even before the break he was struggling. Cedeno was tearing up AAA and then comes up and sits. So now when/if he does get his shot and he struggles it really shouldnt be a surprise. I just hope they give him more than 2 or 3 games when/if he does get a chance.

If/when he does get a chance, I'm all for it. It's just unfortunate for him that Theriot is playing well right now and the team is winning. Less likely that things are going to be experimented with.

Hopefully Z goes 7, because I don't want Marmol to have to pitch today. His arm is going to be toast.
