If this is posted anywhere else, I haven't seen it:

Not Miller time: The Cubs got poor reports on Wade Miller’s rehab outing Wednesday for Class AA Tennessee. In other words, the stuff was as bad as the numbers indicated. Miller, who is rehabbing a shoulder injury, gave up 7 runs on 6 hits while walking two and striking out six in 3 innings of relief. The velocity on Miller’s fastball is said to be only in the mid-80s (mph).

He's gotta call it quits soon, doesn't he?

The Cubs need to release him soon. He's just wasting a roster spot.

I don't think it's a big deal. He's not actually wasting a roster spot because he's not on the 25 man or the 40 man roster right now. As long as they don't try to put him on either of those rosters, he will just fade away after another month.

I'm not sure he'd quit during the season. I think it's more likely that he'd be shut down for the rest of the season, then retire during the off-season if nobody will sign him for next year.

Yeah, there's not exactly a logjam in the Iowa rotation either.

Why is this guy still in the organization? He's damaged goods, time to move on.

Well, he's not taking up a roster spot right now, and I don't believe he's blocking any prospects from getting their starts. He's not going to retire today and forfeit the rest of his guaranteed money. I don't see any harm in keeping him around as a worst case scenario insurance policy for a spot start if something happens to the rest of the staff and all their backups.

That's about the size of it, Jersey.

Isn't he on the 40 man?

Technically, yes. But he's on the 60-day DL, which allows the Cubs to replace his spot on the 40-man roster.

He's on the 60 day DL right now, which means he doesn't take a spot up on the 40 man as long as he remains on the that list.
