ANGEL GUZMAN SIGHTING!! He's on the rehab trail, starting for Mesa: 4 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 K/1 BB.

Given MiLB.com's poor track record at times with rookie league box scores, I have a feeling Guzman only went 2 innings (since it doesn't make sense to see a rehabber - especially a rehabbing reliever - go more than 2 innings in his first appearance). Either that or Dusty Baker is the new manager at Mesa.

Donnie Veal topped out at 94 mph in the first inning but gave up an unearned run thanks in part to his own throwing error - 1 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K/0 BB.

And now Donnie Veal is getting rocked in the third inning. :(

3 IP, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 4 K/2 BB.

Is Veal quickly joining the likes of Brownlie, Hagerty, Blasko, Christensen, Telemaco, group of overhyped prospects?

He's been bad pretty much all year.

He's been very inconsistent and has had poor control all season long, but he's been much better since his awful April. Since April 29th (not counting today): 65.2 IP, 4.11 ERA, 66 K/34 BB, .262 BAA. He has had a disappointing season.

Mitch Atkins had his third consecutive poor outing: 5 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 4 H, 2 K/2 BB, 2 HR. All the runs scored scored on the HRs - a 3-run shot from BJ Upton and a 2-run HR from Jackson Brennan. Daytona down 5-0 in the 7th.

Another strong effort from Jake Renshaw - 6 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 5 H, 3 K/1 BB. It's his fourth straight solid start after the MWL All-Star game, but his strikeouts have been down the last two games. Peoria up 3-1 after 7.

Iowa is down 2-0 in the 9th but threatening with 2 on and none out. As TT pointed out, Josh Kroeger is getting hot - he's 2/2 with a double and 2 walks today.

with the game tied 2-2, and men on 2nd and 3rd, bottom 9, no outs, they...intentionally walk Eric Patterson to get to Cedeno? And then, naturally, gameday freezes.

I guess they wanted the force at any base since there were runners at second and third when EPatt came up. John Nelson had the game-tying 2-RBI double.

Kroeger intrigues me. Its obvious he has talent, but his previous performance leaves a lot to be desired.

Off-topic, I'll be seeing former farmhand Jon Connolly throw tomorrow for Toledo.

Gameday seems to take it back, Eric Patterson didn't get the intentional walk. Instead, he got the game-winning RBI single.

I was wondering why anybody would want to pitch around somebody to get to Cedeno. 0-4 tonight, but still.

That's the kind of thing that makes him so interesting.

He also topped out at 95 today. 6 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 7 K/1 BB, HR.

LHP Arik Hempy (17th rounder from South Carolina who was just called up) is warming up in the pen to get an inning today before starting on Wednesday.

Speaking of Hempy, I never knew he topped out at 95 before his TJS (from ITI):

With your frame and build (6-foot-4, 245 pounds), you seemingly have the body of a power pitcher.

Arik Hempy: Yeah, my velocity is not quite there yet because I’m only 15 months removed from Tommy John and they say it doesn’t really come back until 18 to 22 months. My velocity has been clocked up to 95 (mph) and my fastball is definitely a dominant pitch. I throw all four-seamer’s, but I tend to roll over a little bit so that makes it tough on some hitters. I’m definitely a power guy and since (the surgery), I’ve really developed a decent changeup because my velocity hasn’t been quite there yet, so I can’t just blow it by people; I have to learn how to pitch and be able to get them out with something other than my fastball.

They actually were intentionally walking EPatt and he stuck his bat out and hit ball 4 past the 3rd baseman  it was amazing.

omg, I wish I could watch that

I don't think there is video available anywhere :x They were showing the game highlights after the game and almost everybody was waiting to see it because a lot weren't even paying attention due to it being an INT walk. The highlight reel included a bunch of mostly routine defensive plays and then the 2 rbi game tieing double and then it was over, everybody BOO'D loudly.

Like I said above it was real confusing because everybody was just assuming Ball 4, but I guess the pitcher got it too close to the plate and Eric went for it.
