What was the point of stretching him out for two starts in Iowa? This is ridiculous.

It's the Cubs. Would you expect less?

pretty soon Veal will be up as a lefty specialist

We'll see Vitters as the 25th man as soon as he signs.

I sense that these fellas are at least in part being showcased. To bad Bob Barker retired.
I agree with this. I mean, it's the only thing that remotely makes any sense whatsoever.

The question is showcased for whome??????

"This kid came up here and opened up some eyes real quick," Piniella said of the right-hander, who was assigned to Triple-A Iowa and will pitch in relief there. "I wouldn't be surprised if you see him here in the second half at some point."

The only thing Petrick needs to show the Cubs is that he can pitch on consecutive days. He has yet to go back to back.

So they like him, but they are afraid to use him back to back right now.

They like Petrick, they like Gallagher starting (he hasn't pitched out of the bullpen until now), this yo-yo'ing is going to continue until they manage to free up at least one 25-man roster spot.

I'm surprised they are going to try Petrick on back-to-back days this season itself. I hope it's not a case of trying to help the big league team while risking his shoulder. I still want to see Petrick start, hopefully it happens next season.

Is it 10 days or 10 games that a player has to spend in AAA before he can be called back up?

10 days.

Thanks. That's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure.

I'm not really concerned about Gallagher, as he has not proven he is anything but a garbage time pitcher (at least at this point).

This shuffling is really unfair to Petrick who has shown he can get out major league hitters.

I really don't know where to begin with this....

Ignore it.

You're full of excellent advice.

Is that sarcasm? Either way, it is great advice.

After Petrick can prove that he can pitch on back-to-back days, is there any chance gallagher starts for the major league club? Edited by killthegoat06

You mean as a replacement for Hill? If so, I take back my compliment above.

Only way I see a different starter in the rotation this year (barring injuries) is if Marshall is traded. Then I could see Gallagher starting.

I didn't mean a replacement for Hill as much as is he ready to pitch as a major league starter if need be (someone gets injured)?

Over who?

I don't mean immediately, but if someone gets injured or we are in need of a starter, would he be ready?

He's probably next on the depth chart (depending on how Ryan Dempster fits in with all of this) but he's not ready.

In about a month, Juan Mateo will probably be ready at AAA.

Sorry Raisin but here is where I have to disagree with you, is he ready I think so. I would love to see him actually get to start a game soon.

Not that you're biased! :D

My guess is once the Cubs get back to 12 pitchers, Gallagher will be sent back to AAA to start so that he's stretched out if the Cubs need another starter.

If we deal Marshall or Hill for Dunn :), then Gallagher likely gets first crack at the rotation.

That's my main concern with Sean being called back up. He missed what would have been his 3rd AAA start after his last call-up. I'm hoping that they'll get him back to a starting rotation soon because another MLB starter will probably be needed at some point in the second half.
