Jones AND Izturis to be traded?

I'm impressed that Lou went with Theriot at SS yesterday with Marquis on the mound. I think that's the first start this year for Marquis where Izturis wasn't at SS.

 

In Marquis' 17 starts this year.............

 

Team record by starting shortstop

CUBS are 5-5 when Izturis starts at ss
CUBS are 5-1 when Theriot starts at ss
CUBS are 1-0 when Cedeno starts at ss

 

Who got all of the rest of the starts at shortsop? That's only 17 games. Fontenot only started at ss twice (as far as I can remember) and I can't recall Derosa ever starting at ss.

 

If you recall, reading the previous posts, the discussion is predicated on games that Marquis started, of which there are only 17. But since you asked....

That doesn't mean much though. For example, Izturis has a worse record than Theriot even though Izturis has better numbers in his starts at SS than Theriot has in his starts at SS.

There should be no big rush to get rid of either Jones or Izturis. Jones is basically the 5th OF, and Izturis is the last IF off the bench.

I disagree. Jones is occupying the spot that should be held by a 12th pitcher and I'm not sure how much longer the Cubs can get by with the bullpen working as much as they have recently.

Green is at least producing competently. I doubt the Mets would be up for that trade.

Well, a team like Florida did want Jones-they even wanted him to be a starter. They just didn't want to pay him very much (or couldn't afford to on their budget).
