The deal for Izturis pissed me off as well. You can't tell me that some team wouldn't have given something better for Maddux.

Why it does seem like a long shot, I would have to imagine that Lou has got Jim on the phone 24/7 trying to get rid of jones/izturis/eyre. I mean all 3 are buried DEEP on the roster( :D ), with the BP taxed, how much longer can these three rot away on the bench when someone useful is at AAA?

 

I say if you can get anybody to pay around half of any of their salaries and some crappy prospect do it and eat the cost. Whoever we call up will have a fresh new attitude that could only help this team that is already rolling. It may look bad on your part for the stupid contracts jim, but a good record this year would look a whole lot better! Get it done before the ASB!

I think it kinda sucks for Jones/Izturis that they catch all the heat for their lousy contracts when Cub Management is the ones that gave it to them.

 

I'm really glad we have a manager who will play the deserving players instead of trotting out bench players to start.

He was much better defensively then he is now, and he was improving as an offensive player. I don't particularly understand why the Dodgers felt the need to buy out his arbitration years though-how much more could he have possibly gotten in arbitration?

There should be no big rush to get rid of either Jones or Izturis. Jones is basically the 5th OF, and Izturis is the last IF off the bench. For once the Cubs have a manager that is giving out playing time based upon earning it and not salary. Maybe Hendry will amaze me and get a decent prospect and/or salary relief, but I'm not counting on it.

Yeah. Izturis is useful as the second backup IF until they decide to bring Cedeno up. The question becomes-if the Cubs came to you and said-we can either bring Cedeno up as a backup and have him sit on the bench consistently or not bring him up at all, which one would you rather have? I'd rather have him in the minors then sitting on the bench consistently right now, so I'm fine with Izturis being on the roster as long as they will give DeRosa a chance to start at SS. If/when DeRosa proves he cannot handle SS, then release/trade Izturis and bring up Cedeno to start at SS.
